She-Hulk Season Two May Have Been Canceled After Series’ Budgets Were Insane and Ratings Collapsed

The days of easy budgets and fast-paced approvals for new seasons may be over for Marvel. She-Hulk is unlikely to return.

The following article is a follow-up to John F. Trent’s coverage of She-Hulk’s second season (likely) cancelation. This article provides additional information regarding the budgetary reasons to stop She-Hulk. For the original report by Mr. Trent, please click here.

Forbes delved into the financial quagmire of the Marvel/Disney Plus venture, “Secret Invasion,” revealing a budgetary overshoot. However, it was not the only Marvel Disney Plus show to attempt “infinity and beyond”. The production ultimately came with a staggering price tag of $211.6 million. However, it appears that the fiscal escapade of “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” may have outpaced even that. ScreenRant has the total cost of She-Hulk all the way up at $225 million!

Disney has revealed that its super hero spy dramaΒ Secret InvasionΒ is expected to be over budget as its costs have ballooned to $211.6 million (Β£166.2 million.)

— Caroline Reid, Forbes

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law had a reported budget of $25 million for a single episode, which could potentially total $225 million for the full season.

— Andy Behbakht, ScreenRant

According to Variety, a singular episode of “She-Hulk,” also exceeding its budget, reportedly incurred a jaw-dropping cost of up to $25 million for Disney, a sum rivaling the most extravagant episodes of “Game of Thrones.” The aggregate budget for “She-Hulk” soared to approximately $225 million. Unfortunately, the expenditure didn’t translate into a triumph — the show ultimately held horrific ratings and reception both in terms of viewership and audience reaction.

“She-Hulk” stands as yet another instance of Marvel/Disney grappling with a grandiose project gone awry. Now, however, that may finally come with consequences.

According to noted Disney leaker (with a track record of specificity and success), ThwipT, Kevin Feige seems to be thinking twice, thrice, and even more about just saying “no” to She-Hulk Season Two. That means we may have seen the end of the green-hued, CGI-intense attorney’s adventures on Disney Plus. Whether or not she might reappear as a cameo in the MCU movies is anyone’s guess.

She-Hulk has been a particular thorn in the side of The Walt Disney Company, not only raking in terrible reviews, but also managing to become a meme-generating machine for those who might harbor resistance to Disney’s new direction.

Terrible reviews? She-Hulk has a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. If you are referring to the audience rating, which has proven to be review-bombed then you don’t have much evidence to support your claim.
She-Hulk was also the top-rated streaming ranking number nine on the top ten list.
Granted, I think they should begin to transition She-Hulk to the big screen and have the movies be her primary platform. But out of all the Disney+ Marvel shows, She-Hulk should be the most likely to get a second season.
