Shrek 4-D Prepares to Close After Nearly Twenty Years

It seems that Shrek is heading back to his swamp, though Donkey may still stay. Boulder complimenting will have to wait for now.

Universal Studios Orlando is about to say goodbye to our favorite green ogre, his shape-shifting princess bride, and one loud-mouthed and quick-quipping donkey pal. After nearly twenty years of operation, Shrek 4-D will have its very last day of operation this Sunday, January 9th.

No announcement has been made as to what will replace Shrek 4-D. The attraction will still be available in media form, either by watching it on DVD bundles where the attraction video was included, or via checking it out on YouTube. Does this fully replace the experience and the excellent pre-show? Not quite… but all things must eventually come to an end. We just hope that Gingy the Gingerbread Man doesn’t cry too much over this loss. We’d hate to hear that his gumdrop buttons were tarnished by salty tears.

If you’ve never seen Shrek 4-D and can’t make it this weekend, here’s a look at the video:

A meaner person might say that Lord Faarqwad is just heading over to pilot the Galactic Starcuiser, but we would never say such a thing. That’s more of a Twitter thing. But let’s not be naughty post-Christmas, after all, it looks like Universal is going to completely demolish the building based on permits coming out. So maybe it’s a good time to just be positive about all the denizens of the Shrek universe…

So feel free to share with us your favorite Shrek 4-D memories in the comments below. Is this one you’re going to regret losing, or is this an attraction to forget?
