A fatal incident aboard the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia has raised serious questions about amusement park safety after eyewitnesses reported that a male guest fell from the attraction while it was operating. The incident prompted an emergency response, leaving other passengers stranded aboard the roller coaster as authorities began investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
Six Flags Over Georgia in Austell, Georgia, became the scene of a tragedy on Monday, October 12, 2026, following the reported death of a guest riding one of the amusement park’s most recognizable roller coasters.
According to a report from the New York Post, a male guest reportedly fell from the Goliath roller coaster during operation.
The incident resulted in a significant emergency response, with local authorities and park personnel responding to the scene.
Although Six Flags confirmed a guest fatality, the company has not publicly established exactly what happened aboard the attraction or explained how the guest reportedly became separated from the ride.
The victim’s identity has not been publicly released.
Eyewitnesses Describe Disturbing Incident Aboard Goliath
Witnesses provided troubling accounts of the incident, describing a passenger falling from the roller coaster while it was moving.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, one witness claimed that the falling passenger struck the roller coaster’s cars multiple times.
The same witness reportedly discovered that the incident had been captured in photographs taken during the ride.
These accounts have not been independently confirmed by investigators, and authorities have not established whether the reported fall resulted from a mechanical problem, a restraint issue, or another circumstance.

Following the incident, the roller coaster stopped operating, leaving additional passengers stranded.
WSB-TV Atlanta reported that emergency personnel evacuated passengers from Goliath after the attraction stopped on an incline.
According to the station, passengers were removed from the ride in groups of four as emergency responders worked to clear the attraction.
The evacuation was also captured by the station’s NewsChopper2 helicopter.
FOX 5 Atlanta reported on the emergency response, which involved police and other first responders.
Police Identify Victim as 42-Year-Old Atlanta Man
Authorities have now identified the deceased guest as Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, 42, of Atlanta, Georgia.
In an official statement released Tuesday, the Cobb County Police Department confirmed that officers responded to the incident at approximately 3:58 p.m. Monday.
Officers discovered Kariem beneath the roller coaster, unresponsive and not breathing.
Hassan Kariem, a 42-year-old Atlanta teacher, has been identified as the man who fell to his death from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags while riding with his son. His wife and daughter reportedly witnessed the incident from the ground.
Witnesses said Kariem came out of his seat, struck another rider and was hit by the coaster before falling onto the roof of a haunted attraction. Goliath, Georgia’s tallest roller coaster, reaches speeds of 70 mph. Six Flags reportedly shut down nine similar rides nationwide following the incident.

Preliminary interviews with witnesses and park employees indicate that Kariem was ejected from the attraction, struck other passengers, and subsequently fell beneath the ride.
WSB-TV reported that four additional people were injured and transported to the hospital.
According to ABC News, Kariem worked at Wesley International Academy, an Atlanta school, where he was remembered as a valued member of the school community.
Reports also indicate that Kariem was riding the roller coaster with his son when the incident occurred.
Six Flags Responds as Investigation Begins
Following the tragedy, Six Flags Over Georgia issued a statement expressing condolences to the victim’s family.
“We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected.”
The company confirmed that park personnel and local authorities responded immediately and that Six Flags was cooperating with investigators.

Cobb County Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating the incident. The Georgia Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire has also announced an investigation.
The central question remains how a passenger could be ejected from a roller coaster equipped with safety restraints.
Goliath, manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard, opened at Six Flags Over Georgia in 2006. The massive steel hypercoaster stands approximately 200 feet tall and reaches speeds of 70 miles per hour.
The attraction uses lap-bar restraints rather than traditional over-the-shoulder harnesses. However, investigators have not established whether a restraint malfunction contributed to Kariem’s death.
Six Flags Closes Nine Roller Coasters Across Six Parks
The consequences of the tragedy have already extended beyond Georgia.
According to the Associated Press, Six Flags has temporarily closed nine roller coasters across six amusement parks as a precaution while authorities investigate.
The closures include similar attractions at other Six Flags properties, including Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California and Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey.
The decision reflects the seriousness of the incident and the unanswered questions surrounding the circumstances of Kariem’s death.
At this time, there is no confirmed evidence establishing that the other closed roller coasters have mechanical defects.
The precautionary closures do not establish that Goliath’s restraint system failed. Determining what happened will require a thorough examination of the attraction, its operating procedures, and witness testimony.

For a company whose business depends on providing thrilling experiences while maintaining guest safety, the investigation carries significant implications.
Six Flags has not announced when the affected attractions will reopen.
Meanwhile, Cobb County authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the department’s Major Crimes Unit at 770-499-3945.
The investigation remains active.
For Kariem’s family, however, the tragedy extends far beyond questions about roller coaster engineering and amusement park operations. A day at Six Flags ended with the loss of a husband, father, and member of the Atlanta community.
That Park Place will continue following developments surrounding the fatal incident at Six Flags Over Georgia, including the investigation into Goliath and the status of the company’s precautionary roller coaster closures.
