There’s been a ton of Sonic the Hedgehog news lately, probably intentionally, but we promise that we do cover all types of video games. It’s just a bit slow with the pandemic, and suddenly there’s tons of blue hedgehog information coming down the pipe. The latest news is confirmation for an earlier report here at That Park Place in which Manú Lopez reported that the next Sonic the Hedgehog game would be called Sonic Frontiers. We expect the other leaks from his article to hold true as well: the game is a Triple A release, is an open world game, features questing, etc. We’ll see how well Sonic Team and SEGA can pull of this latest attempt to bring Sonic to the forefront of video game franchises.
According to Polygon:
The game is being developed by Sega’s Sonic Team Japan and is being led by producer Sachiko Kawamura and director Morio Kishimoto. According to the developers, Sonic Frontiers is an “open-zone-inspired experience” and will feature an original storyline from Sonic Boom writer Ian Flynn.
“Sonic Frontiers is a huge leap forward for the franchise, delivering an evolved gameplay experience that can be enjoyed by longtime Sonic fans and action-adventure enthusiasts alike.”
— Takashi Iizuka, Creative Officer for Sonic Team USA
While we wait on more details about the game, check out this first trailer for Sonic Frontiers!
