Variety is reporting that Spider-Man: No Way Home has blasted its way into theaters with an incredible $50 million Thursday night. That means that Spider-Man is on track to have the third-highest opening for any film in history (coming in behind Avengers Endgame and The Force Awakens). Literally the only thing that can stop the movie at this point would be lockdowns from the latest pandemic variant. That’s unlikely for this weekend, and that means Spider-Man may actually break the $200 million mark. Not only are the financial numbers looking awesome, but the audience reviews are stunning.

Here at That Park Place, we rated Spider-Man No Way Home as a 9.5 (Incredible). From our review:
There’s very little that can be said about Spider-Man: No Way Home without spoiling the move in some way. With that out of the way, let me be clear: this is an awesome movie. Go see this movie. Don’t wait, don’t let it be spoiled for you, just go. If you’ve loved Spider-Man movies before, this movie is beyond a ten. If you are a huge Marvel fan, this movie is beyond a ten. If you’ve never cared about any of that before, this is still a really good movie.
The question for Sony now will be whether or not regional lockdowns around the holiday take place. If various countries and domestic states close theaters, Spider-Man might not reach the highs of the movies it is chasing. However, if left to swing freely, Peter Parker may be on his way to a near-billion dollar box office even without China. That is nearly beyond belief. And should this movie reach those sorts of numbers, you can expect Sony to think very hard about bringing back actors in this film. And why not? If audiences want to cheer on the stars of this movie, give the people what they want. There’s huge money ready to the studio who is just willing to give fans what they want to see.
66 year old Willem Dafoe only agreed to return as the Green Goblin as long as he was allowed to perform the stunts and fight scenes. He’s so dedicated I love it pic.twitter.com/jDghAje0Ll
