When you announce a new ride at the American Disney Parks, you would hope that the audience is happy with what you’re bringing.
In the case of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, let’s just say it’s not going the way Disney Parks would like. And unlike the situation with Lightyear in which a bad movie disappears from memories over time, the removal of Splash Mountain will stay with Disneyland and Walt Disney World for decades to come.
It’s bad enough that the “town hall” or “discussion panel” that was totally scripted, which announced the new Bayou Adventure that will replace Splash Mountain, is being equally downvoted online. Although YouTube has worked hard to hide the “dislike” numbers, we here at That Park Place have a way around that. Not only can we see the number of dislikes but we can also see that the comments have been turned off. Now I know that sometimes comments are turned off because people are being rude — but I’m also not so naïve as to think that companies only shut down comments for that reason. Sometimes it’s to control the narrative. However, I also want to say that if anyone out there is making utterly rude or vile comments at any of the people featured in the video, that’s not okay. Everyone should be as kind as they possible can be while still getting their point across.

Has there ever been an attraction announced for Disney Parks that had high dislikes and the comments had to be turned off? If you’re like some of our writers at this website, the apprehension for Tiana has nothing to do with bigotry. Instead, I fully support Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. I just support it as its own ride that doesn’t replace Splash Mountain, which will continue to exist in Japan. Disney needs to pull the band aid off and deal with the issues of Splash Mountain, Song of the South, and the movie that earned an African American man the very first Oscar. Getting rid of Splash Mountain, one of the most popular attractions at Disneyland and Disney World, is far too risky. If it fails, it will be a costly mistake in more than a few ways.
