No, it may not be the same as it once was and there’s no public decision about whether or not a CGI Stan Lee will be returning to Marvel Cinematic Universe movies… but there’s no doubt that Marvel has just paid to use Stan Lee’s likeness in the future. If that likeness will be used in comics, in tevelision shows, in print, in movies or in any other type of material, the future is uncertain. However, Marvel has made the decision to pay for that use of Stan Lee’s likeness in whatever way they would choose.

According to Super Hero Hype, this could lead to CGI cameos. Of course, no source believes Marvel would pursue such a measure if it might be perceived as distasteful or disrespectful.
Lee’s ubiquitous cameo appearances had long been a staple of live-action Marvel movies before his death in 2018. The following summer, Lee made his final live-action cameo appearance in Avengers: Endgame. This deal could conceivably “digitally resurrect” him for similar walk-on roles à la Peter Cushing in Rogue One. But that doesn’t mean they necessarily will. Marvel’s mindful that fans might object.
According to other sources, the purchased rights include video and audio archives and may also include simulation and/or emulation of Mr. Lee’s voice.
Not everyone is thrilled with this new arrangement. Still, it would seem bizarre for Marvel and Disney to use his likeness in any way that would generate negative feedback.
