Deadline has confirmed that Claudia Black will not appear in Ahsoka Season 2, despite being invited back to reprise her role as Klothow, one of the Nightsisters who aligned with Grand Admiral Thrawn. The actress says the issue came down to pay — specifically, that Disney couldn’t compensate her enough for the responsibilities she carries “as a single mother.”
But as this story made the rounds, fans noticed something a little… off about that framing.
And by “off,” I mean face-palm funny.
Fun fact: Single mom Claudia Black’s children are both adults; grown men ages 20 and 18 https://t.co/hD8jcq2rje

Chris Braly of BleedingFool highlighted on X that Black’s “single mom” justification ignores one tiny detail:
her “kids” are grown adults — ages 20 and 18.
Not toddlers. Not grade schoolers. Adults. Rent-paying, legally voting, ramen-boiling adults.
File that under “things that change the tone of the story just a smidge.”
Claudia Black Explains Why She’s Out for Season 2
Black’s comments come directly from her interview with Deadline, where she explained why she ultimately declined the Season 2 offer.

“Disney, which is structuring things differently these days, could not pay me what I needed to be paid as a single mother to keep all my responsibilities going at home in Los Angeles,” she said. “It was not something that they could make happen, and therefore, I had to bow out for season two.”
She added that she sent Dave Filoni a thank-you note, closing her message with, “What a ride!”

Black also praised the set environment, calling it a “fun, playful space to be in” and said her younger son — again, 18, not a preschooler — immediately recognized the Nightsisters the moment she hinted at the role while bound under NDAs.
The Pay Dispute: Real Issue or Hollywood Inflation?
Actors turning down roles for financial reasons is nothing new, especially with Hollywood still wading through post-strike economic weirdness. Disney in particular has been cutting budgets left and right, from Marvel to Star Wars.

But the “single mother” angle became the headline, overshadowing the very real point Black was making. Disney offered less money, the job was overseas, and she didn’t believe the compensation balanced the disruption. That’s a clean, reasonable explanation all on its own.
The internet just… couldn’t get past the “single mom of two adults” bit.
And honestly? You can’t blame them. Hollywood loves tugging heartstrings, even when the heart-tugging math doesn’t add up.
What Does This Mean for Ahsoka Season 2?
Klothow wasn’t a centerpiece character, but she was part of a trio that fed directly into Filoni’s growing Nightsister mythology. So Lucasfilm now has three options.
- Recast her role (which they’ve done repeatedly across Star Wars)
- Swap in a different Nightsister
- Write Klothow out entirely

Given Filoni’s worldbuilding plans — and his upcoming movie meant to tie together the Mando-verse — the Nightsisters are too important to drop entirely. Whether that means recasting or restructuring remains to be seen.
Lucasfilm, unsurprisingly, offered no comment on the situation.
Final Thoughts
Claudia Black is a respected sci-fi actress with an enormous fandom — Farscape, Stargate SG-1, Uncharted, The Nevers — so her departure is a real loss. But the way the explanation rolled out all but guaranteed the internet would seize on the contradictions.

If nothing else, fans learned something new about the Nightsisters: they’re not the only ones capable of conjuring illusions.
Whether Ahsoka Season 2 recasts Klothow or quietly moves on, Disney’s ongoing restructuring continues to reshape its productions — for better or worse.

And if your adult children are 18 and 20, remember: they might be old enough to vote… but Hollywood will still call them part of your “single mom struggle” if it helps shape a narrative.

“Star Wars Actor ”
It is ‘Star Wars Actress”. ACTRESS.
I despair at Americans and their asinine political correctness.
Hardly political correctness, an actor can be male or female. If you say I’m looking for 10 actors to make a film, that can be either male or female. It’s a bit redundant to just say actors or actresses every time in cases like that. In fact, aren’t the female equivalents more political correct? I’m sure most terms like policewoman or firewoman come after the original terms to be more inclusive.
NOT in this context, because a specific ACTRESS quit.
It’s like saying a “Prince” attended Wimbledon, when it was a princess.
When you wish to be rid of some actress, offer them less money.
Interestingly, the same tactic failed for the movie, Dumb and Dumber. They didn’t think that Jeff Daniels was right for the part opposite Carey, so they only offered him 50k, thinking he’s reject such a paltry offer. The tactic failed, and, thank heavens, he was, of course, very funny indeed.
Great movie. The rat poison scene still cracks me up.
“Are you going to watch Ahsoka Season 2”. I didn’t watch Season 1. My boycott of woke Hollywood is steadfast.
I did make a 3D artwork of a naked Asoka-like alien, though, a while back. Maybe Disney should hire me to boost their ratings.
“Are you going to watch Ahsoka Season 2?”
Nah. Some decisions on Seasons 1 were so awful that it’s easily on the level of Mando Season 3 or Acolyte. And so far there is absolutely no reason to believe that Season 2 will be essential better as the other BS.
I watched season one, it was whatever. Didn’t bother with acolyte, maybe I will eventually. Thankfully I don’t need to pay for it, but still not sure how much I want to watch space witch lesbians.
This series is so far from my mind my first though was “Wait, I thought they canceled that series with Dis Girl and the Former Personal Assistant to Harvey Weinstein.”
It is too bad; I became a fan of Clauda Black all the way back from Farscape, but this excuse is laughable. On the other hand, it wouldn’t surprise me to see her kids are still living at home.
Still, what else is on her docket that she can afford to turn down any work? Especially at her age and the fact she’s a niche actress (almost exclusively a video game VO or Sci-fi TV actress). Hollywood is in crisis and she’s not insulated. Is it better to go overseas for a couple months and bring home a check of any sort or sit in the house unemployed?
