Inflation is on the rise and many people are starting to rethink their movie nights, multi-day vacations, as well as road trips across the country. But all is not lost, even when an economy makes discretionary spending more difficult. It just means that we may have to be a bit more creative when planning for outdoor fun!
One thing that some people may never have considered is a trip to the local green way. Now what is a green way, exactly? Well, it’s a place usually run by your local town or city that features a sidewalk for pedestrians, almost always through a semi-natural area. Often you may find playgrounds, benches, cool rivers and streams, not to mention some disc golf opportunities. These areas can be a free chance to take your family on a small hike or feed a group of ducklings. And if you’re a child from an era gone by, maybe it’s time to dust off those roller blades you’ve had in the closet for a couple of decades.
I’ve included some photos from my local Greenway where I used the day to train for a 5K race. Check it out and remember to find your own park or trail that you can use to find beautiful flowers and stay in shape. Just keep in mind that you need to verify your local spot is safe at whatever times of the day your planning to visit.
