Stranger Things and Top Gun Hold Strong: Kenobi Interest Flat-Lines

May 30, 2022  ·
  TPP Newsroom

Our writers and analysts are shocked. Really.

We will be sharing a more detailed explanation for what we think is going on later this week, but suffice for today is a straight news piece that details what is happening. And that happening is that while Stranger Things Season 4 online search interest is holding fantastically well (an excellent barometer for overall societal interest), and Top Gun Maverick is doing the same, Obi-Wan Kenobi’s interest has dropped off to such a degree we believe it is an objective fact it is flat-lining.

We understand that interest will almost certainly pop up again when Kenobi releases its next episode, but it has to be very concerning to Disney and Lucasfilm that they have dropped something like 90% of the original debut search interest for Kenobi in just a few days. Meanwhile, that isn’t occuring for the other two big media properties out over the weekend. And remember that Stranger Things Season 4 had double the interest of Kenobi at their simultaneous debut.

We’ll stop there to make sure this is just objective news relaying. Again, analysis is coming later this week about what in the world is going on and whether Lucasfilm should be more than worried.

Hate to say it, but hope the failure of Kenobi ensures that Disney makes changes at Lucasfilm, sooner rather than later. Not sure why they keep certain people around to keep screwing up Star Wars.

Second episode was terrible. Not hard to see why interest declined.

As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I’m enjoying Stranger Things way more than anything Disney has put out. And it’s not even close.

Sadly, I’ve always been a Star Wars diehard, but have been unimpressed with Disney Star Wars (except for Mando and Rogue 1 ). Kenobi was one of my favorite characters growing up, but with Disney’s vocal and wreckless shift leftward, we canceled Disney plus, sold my stock, and canceled our future vacation. Presently, I have read some reviews, I have absolutely zero interest in the show now. Stranger Things 4 was great!
