Stranger Things Season 4 Ep. 6-7 Review: The Baddie Revealed

So it is finally time for me to review episodes 6 and 7 of Stranger Things Season 4. You may be asking yourself why in the world I’m just now getting into it. But, I am also asking myself the same thing. In reality, I probably should have given the review process for these episodes to another writer at the website. My love for Stranger Things made me want to do this, but I have found it difficult to fulfill my other writing duties as well as get these reviews completed. After all, each episode is basically like a movie unto itself. That means to get to this point, I had to watch something like nine hours of content. I certainly enjoyed it, but my hat is off to anyone who managed to binge this entire half of the season in a single weekend.

These two episodes are in my mind very similar to episodes 4 and 5. Where the first episode was a little shaky, the next two were near perfection. They were at the level of the very first season of Stranger Things. After that there is a drop-off in quality, and again I think it has to do with the entire Russia storyline. Absolutely none of that works for me, I don’t find it believable even within the rules of The Stranger Things universe, and It ultimately pulls me out of all the tension. Meanwhile, things in California and Nevada, as well as now in Salt Lake City, are a little too silly for me. The family situation with Susie, while humorous, just doesn’t fit with the rest of the show if the show is aiming to be like the first three seasons. It seems that Stranger Things is at its best when it is squarely in Hawkins.

As for the bad guy reveal, I hope that there is some greater source of evil and the upside down rather than what we have seen so far. It is neat to see what became of the first child in the experiment that 011 comes from. However, if that is where the upside down comes from, it is less intriguing than what we might have hoped for when we were first introduced to an alternate, ultimate evil in Indiana.

After all of those negatives, you might ask yourself whether or not I am falling down with a less-than-stellar review of these last two episodes. But that is not the case. In fact, I have found these seven episodes to be some of the best television that we have had in years. Two of the episodes were as good as television can get, in my opinion. However, going forward I hope that the gang is put all together because that is when the show is absolutely at its best. And I hope that we can go back to Indiana where all of this seems to make the most sense. If I have come across negatively, it’s only because I’m measuring this again what it can be, and what it can be is one of the very best horror television shows in the history of television. I mean that. There were times when it reached that level once again, for the first time since the first season. That beat my expectations, and I’m utterly thrilled with it.

So what is next? I guess I’ll be doing my summary review of season 4 volume 1 and the next few days. And then, despite my better judgment, I bet I’ll be doing the reviews for the second volume. I’m a glutton for punishment, just like the kids from Hawkins, Indiana.
