Nintendo has officially confirmed that the first Super Mario Galaxy Movie trailer will debut during a special Nintendo Direct presentation this Wednesday, November 12th at 6 a.m. PT / 9 a.m. ET.

The announcement came via the Nintendo Today! app and was echoed on Nintendo’s official X account. Unlike typical Directs, Nintendo clarified that no game content will appear — this broadcast is devoted entirely to the movie reveal.

What to Expect From the Presentation

Fans can catch the Super Mario Galaxy Movie trailer premiere on YouTube or through the Nintendo Today! app. IGN’s coverage notes that it remains unclear how long the presentation will run or whether the trailer will occupy most of the stream.

The upcoming film — a sequel to 2023’s billion-dollar hit The Super Mario Bros. Movie — reunites Illumination Entertainment with Nintendo Co., Ltd.

From the Mushroom Kingdom to the Stars

The new trailer follows the September 2025 teaser, which featured Mario napping in the Mushroom Kingdom before a sweeping camera rise revealed a star-filled sky and the title card.

Fans are eager to see how this sequel adapts the cosmic setting of the 2007 Nintendo Wii classic Super Mario Galaxy. Some fan theories and leaks hint that Yoshi, Bowser Jr., and Rosalina could appear in the movie. This speculation was fueled by a Pillsbury promotional leak showing themed cookies with those characters.

Some fans also believe the movie could finally explore a long-standing theory connecting Princess Peach and Rosalina’s origins, though Nintendo has offered no confirmation.

Confirmed Release Date and Return of the Cast

The film will hit theaters on April 3, 2026. While Nintendo hasn’t re-announced the full voice cast, industry trades and prior press releases confirm the return of:

  • Chris Pratt as Mario
  • Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach
  • Charlie Day as Luigi
  • Jack Black as Bowser

Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and writer Matthew Fogel are also returning, with music by Brian Tyler.

Nintendo’s Expanding Cinematic Universe

This marks Nintendo’s continued investment in cinematic storytelling after the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed over $1.36 billion worldwide. The Galaxy sequel will likely deepen Nintendo’s collaboration with Illumination — perhaps paving the way for future film adaptations of franchises like Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda.

I’m half way through watching the first movie, and it’s incredibly impressive. The only “messaging” I could find so far are: the princess is too girl-bossy, and they depicted a blond boy as a bully. I’m sure there’s more, but still. Anyhoo, besides that, it’s a great movie so far, filled with the kind of creativity Disney USED to have, long ago.
Minor SPOILER:
Donkey Kong, and the apes, and the baddie, all these are hilarious!
