The creators of the tabletop role-playing game GiantLands are facing growing backlash after the official Wonderfilled Games account posted a message on social media describing the game’s premise as a “decolonized RPG” set in a future where “the USA and White people don’t exist.”

An official tweet from Wonderfilled confirming that Giantlands is about a future with “no White people” and no USA – X: @WFDGames
The post, issued by Wonderfilled (@WFDgames), outlined the company’s creative vision for the product.
“The premise? What if in the future there were no White people?” it read. “James Ward loved it too.” Ward, a veteran of the original TSR team behind Dungeons & Dragons, is listed as a co-creator of GiantLands and has been a key selling point for the title since its early promotion.

The same post asserted that artist Larry Elmore, along with Steve Once and Jeff Dee, were involved in shaping the visual tone of the game.
“Larry always tried to sneak in people of color into his TSR art, though he was often denied his attempts to make D&D less White,” Wonderfilled claimed. “So we decolonized the RPG, and made a future where the USA and White people don’t exist.”

In another post, the company cited Malcolm X, stating: “Malcom X had it right. ‘The most neglected person in America is the Black woman.’ It’s one reason we feature a ethically mixed Black woman on the cover of our first GiantLands book, which takes place in a future North America.”
Backlash and Response
Backlash began circulating shortly after, with many players and commentators across social media criticizing the erasure-based premise and its inflammatory tone. Some questioned the characterization of James Ward and legacy artists as endorsing such a narrative, while others expressed disbelief that the company would position its product around a world without an entire race of people or the United States.
Rather than backing away from the controversy, the official GiantLands account escalated its stance in a subsequent tweet responding to criticism.
#Trumpzi losers like this is what killed our business. They live in some off white fantasy of reality. We won’t serve them or theirs. They are not welcome at our tables. They bought the books and didn’t realize the premise is that they & their kind are finally gone from this… https://t.co/ReELPNrO5I

“#Trumpzi losers like this is what killed our business,” the company said on its official X account. “They live in some off White fantasy of reality. We won’t serve them or theirs. They are not welcome at our tables. They bought the books and didn’t realize the premise is that they & their kind are finally gone from this earth, so help us God.”
As of publication, the tweet remains live on the platform. Wonderfilled has not issued an apology or clarification regarding the language used.
Posthumous Claims Raise Ethical Questions About James M. Ward’s Legacy
One of the most controversial aspects of Wonderfilled’s messaging lies in its attribution of support to James M. Ward.
In the original post, the company stated: “The premise? What if in the future there were no White people? James Ward loved it too.” However, Ward—an original co-creator of GiantLands and a foundational figure in tabletop RPG history—passed away on March 18, 2024, more than a year before the message was posted.

Ward was a titan of the role-playing industry. He created Metamorphosis Alpha in 1976, widely considered the first sci-fi RPG ever published. He co-developed Gamma World in 1978, helping pioneer the post-apocalyptic RPG genre.
As a major contributor to TSR, the original publisher of Dungeons & Dragons, Ward also worked on Gods, Demi-Gods & Heroes, Deities & Demigods, and numerous other classic titles. He later served as an executive at TSR and helped shape the early expansion of the D&D brand. Over decades, he authored RPGs, novels, and designer essays that influenced generations of game masters and players.

The decision to publicly align Ward’s name with a narrative that imagines a world without White people or the United States—without any verifiable statement or writing from Ward himself—has sparked concern across the community. Many are questioning whether Ward ever endorsed such a vision during his lifetime and whether it is appropriate to attach such politically charged claims to a man whose legacy was built on open-ended storytelling and imaginative world-building for everyone.
The lack of clarification or sourcing from Wonderfilled on this point raises broader ethical questions about posthumous representation, especially when invoking the name of one of the genre’s most celebrated pioneers.
What’s Next for Giantlands?
GiantLands was initially marketed as a post-apocalyptic science-fantasy RPG, rooted in old-school mechanics and TSR-era nostalgia. The boxed set included dice, character sheets, and physical supplements, drawing attention for its retro design and promises of immersive roleplay experiences. The project was previously promoted as involving industry legends like Ward and Elmore.

Now, the game faces scrutiny not just for its lore, but for the public messaging of its developers—raising significant questions about the future of the brand and the accuracy of its legacy claims.

Don’t give money to people who hate you. Also without white men, most people would still be living in grass huts.
Congratulations on selling 1172 copies.
total.
Oh yeah? Well James Ward (or Jimmy Bro, as I liked to call him) told me that he didn’t like the direction this PoS company was going and tried to disassociate himself with the company and this crummy product. He was getting ready to say that publicly and cause the downfall of this company before his suspicious demise.
Proof? I don’t need proof! It is easier to believe what I wrote than to believe their claim Ward endorsed an RPG that deleted the demographic who made him wealthy and famous and the country which provided him with that opportunity.
Well, I respect the honesty of the people involved. I too dream of a world where my people are the only ones left on this planet. Unfortunately my people tolerate race traitors at every opportunity.
It’s ok to be white.
