Guests traveling to Walt Disney World to enjoy Cosmic Rewind at Epcot should probably plan on paying to ride the attraction for at least the first few weeks of summer. According to reports circulating throughout the Disney World blog sites, park management is thus far struggling to keep the attraction running for long periods of time. Whereas many of our writers had believed Disney making Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewing a Virtual Queue-only attraction to be a money-making scheme, it turns out that it may be more severe. At least over at WDWNT, they’re speculating that the technical downtimes may be scaring Disney into going virtual-only in order to hide stagnating physical queues.
This same issue arose with Rise of the Resistance at Hollywood Studios but that attraction is far more complicated than Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Roller coasters tend to be one of the most reliable ride systems out there, so we’re not sure what is causing problems for the opening team and ride operations.
If you find yourself stuck and unable to ride the new roller coaster due to it being down, or because you couldn’t get into the virtual queue in time, we recommend you watch this reporter on the attraction to brighten your day. Warning: what you are about to watch is perhaps the most “weenie” performance of a grown man in the history of the internet.
As for how long we expect Cosmic Rewind to struggle with staying open… not long. Again, roller coasters are not complicated ride systems, and though this does feature a launch hill, the rest of the attraction is screen based and vehicle rotations are done using analog systems. Surely this won’t be down often after a few weeks of ironing out issues.
