Information regarding the growing professional divide between Meghan Markle and Netflix has taken a dramatic turn. According to Variety, co-CEO Ted Sarandos reportedly refuses to speak with the duchess without a lawyer present—a claim her attorney has denied. However, it remains an allegation that suggests the relationship may be shifting from creative collaboration to carefully managed negotiation.

The partnership may have been strained in other ways as well. Sources told the trade that Markle would “disappear” from Zoom calls with Netflix teams, such as the marketing department. Leadership would later be informed that she had exited because she was offended.

One Netflix insider reportedly said, “The mood in the building is ‘We’re done.'” Whether true or exaggerated, the claims highlight an underlying challenge: Markle’s creative collaboration with Netflix has reportedly been far from smooth.

Shifting Agreements

Last August, Netflix revised its original overall deal with Prince Harry and Meghan’s production company into a first-look arrangement, which industry observers described as a downgrade from the original high-value agreement. Under the new terms, Netflix retains the right of first refusal for projects but no longer guarantees the same upfront commitment or financial backing.

Most recently, Netflix announced it had ended its partnership with the Duchess’s As Ever lifestyle brand, launched 11 months ago alongside her Netflix series With Love, Meghan. The series performed poorly with both critics and audiences, holding a 23% critics score and 26% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

When announcing the end of the partnership, a Netflix spokesperson expressed professional admiration for Markle, saying, “As it was always intended, Meghan will continue growing the brand and take it into its next chapter independently.”

This shift in agreements and partnerships highlights the evolving, and perhaps at times strained, nature of Markle’s relationship with the streaming giant. Whether those tensions influenced Markle’s Zoom exits remains a matter of debate. Amid speculation over professional friction, Markle’s team pushed back against the claims.

Markle’s Lawyer Speaks Out

Markle’s attorney, Michael J. Kump, addressed the rumors in a letter to Variety. He noted that Markle works from home and has two young children, ages 4 and 6, who may unexpectedly enter her workspace. “Nearly all professionals need to mute or step away from a virtual meeting at some point during long work calls,” he wrote.

He also refuted the more serious allegation that Sarandos refuses to communicate with Markle without a lawyer present. “This is blatantly false. In fact, Meghan texts and speaks with Mr. Sarandos regularly, and has been to his home, sans lawyers,” Kump wrote.

A Netflix spokesperson speaking with Variety echoed the denial, calling the rumor “absolutely inaccurate.” These statements emphasize that, despite circulating reports, both Markle’s team and Netflix insist that professional communication continues without the legal constraints suggested in media reports.

Looking Ahead

Ultimately, the reports of meeting exits, legal buffers, and deal changes illustrate the challenges of high-profile collaborations under intense public scrutiny. While insiders describe tension within the Netflix partnership, Markle’s team and the company maintain that professional communication continues.

The clearest sign of any rift may emerge as Markle charts the next stage of her professional career—whether with Netflix or independently.

hah, she is so insufferable.

Meghan Markle can’t even get on with Wokeflix, who, politically, are absolutely on her side, all the time. She’s simply obnoxious, a grifter, and a total airhead.

Everyone hates that slob, just cut all ties with her.
