The film sees Jeff Rowe return to direct the film alongside producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
The sequel was announced back in July 2023 before the film hit theaters with Paramount and Nickelodeon boss Brian Robbins stating, “In the nearly 40 years since ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ launched into the zeitgeist, it has entertained generations of fans and only continues to grow. We are excited to grow TMNT’s legacy in partnership with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg at Point Grey, and Jeff Rowe, who are innovating the franchise with their singular brand of humor and elevated storytelling for audiences everywhere, across virtually every platform.”
Ramsey Naito, President of Paramount Animation & Nickelodeon Animation also said, “Reinvigorating this franchise has been years in the making, and we are thrilled to continue expanding the beloved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe and bringing new adventures to families and fans.”

Along with the sequel, Paramount also announced that a Paramount+ spin-off series called Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was also in the works.
The series is expected to hit the streaming service sometime this summer.

As far as reinvigorating the franchise, the film did not do that. In fact, the movie barely broke even. According to The-Numbers, the film only grossed $118.7 million domestically and another $61.6 million internationally for a global gross of $180.3 million.
The movie had a production budget of $70 million meaning it needed to gross at least $175 million to break even. Obviously, it did hit that $175 million mark, but barely edged it out with $180.3 million.

The film was also nowhere near the highest grossing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. In fact, it’s performance was right in the middle of the seven theatrical releases.
The 2014 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film grossed $485 million worldwide, 2016’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows raked in $245.3 million worldwide, and the classic 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles grossed $202 million
It did best 2007’s TMNT, which grossed $96 million, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of Ooze, which grossed $78.6 million in 1991, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, which brought in $42.2 million in 1993.

As for what to expect for the sequel, Rowe informed Collider back in August, “I had a teacher in high school that told me like freshmen know nothing and know they know nothing, sophomores know nothing but think they know something, juniors know something but think they know nothing and seniors know something and know they know nothing.”
He then explained, “And I think they just went through the phase where they don’t really know anything, and they’re kind of aware of it, and I think they’re probably gonna go into a new movie with a lot of confidence that will then be tested by the world and by the social ecosystem of high school.”

In an interview with Empire Magazine, he also teased that Shredder might be the main villain in the sequel. He said, “Shredder used to be the main villain before we pivoted away from that. They saved Joker for The Dark Knight.”
He added, “The one thing I can say without spoiling anything is, [Shredder] needs to be 100 times scarier than Superfly – who is a credible villain, he’s dangerous, he’s strong, he seems like he could mess the Turtles up. Shredder needs to be that, just significantly more.”
The film also ended with Shredder being brought in to capture the turtles.
