As Matt Reeves’ The Batman: Part II begins production, the director has officially confirmed several key members of the cast. He has also shared early test footage on social media, teasing the Batmobile equipped with snow tires—an understated detail that signals a colder, more wintry Gotham than seen previously.

This seasonal shift inevitably calls to mind Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, though it may also hint at thematic or tonal inspiration drawn from classic comic arcs such as The Long Halloween. Some of the casting announcements have only strengthened that theory among fans, adding weight to ongoing speculation about the film’s narrative direction.
Returning Cast Confirmed
In a series of posts on X, Matt Reeves confirmed that The Batman: Part II will see the return of several key performers from the first film. While no major recastings have been announced, it does appear that not every character from the original installment will be returning.

Officer Martinez, played by Gil Perez-Abraham, is also confirmed to return, further grounding the sequel in Gotham’s broader police presence.
Andy Serkis will reprise his role as Alfred Pennyworth, maintaining his position as Bruce Wayne’s closest confidant and moral anchor.

Colin Farrell has indicated in interviews that his role as Oz Cobb may be somewhat reduced in scope, though his portrayal of the character in The Batman and The Penguin series left a strong impression and his return is still expected to carry weight.
Finally, Jayme Lawson will return as Mayor Bella Reál, continuing her arc within Gotham’s evolving political landscape.
The following day, Reeves announced the new members of The Batman: Part II cast.
New Additions and Comic Influences
As many had speculated, Sebastian Stan is set to portray Gotham City District Attorney Harvey Dent. The influence of The Long Halloween is especially notable here, as the story famously charts Dent’s transformation into the villain Two-Face.

British actor Charles Dance will portray Christopher Dent, Harvey’s father. While not a character from The Long Halloween, his presence may add additional texture to Harvey Dent’s backstory and motivations.

Reeves later confirmed that Sebastian Koch and Brian Tyree Henry have also joined the cast in undisclosed roles, further expanding the film’s ensemble.
Notable Omissions and Outlook
Notably absent from the current announcements is Barry Keoghan as The Joker, despite persistent rumors. Zoë Kravitz’s Selina Kyle is also missing from confirmed returns. However, with filming not scheduled to begin until June 6, it remains possible that additional casting details are being intentionally held back.

The Batman: Part II is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 1, 2027—timed for the Halloween season. Whether or not the story directly adapts any specific comic arc remains to be seen. Still, the pieces currently in place suggest a major Gotham-centered event unfolding outside the mainline DCU continuity under James Gunn.
For now, speculation, inference, and fragmentary casting updates continue to shape audience expectations, sustaining interest as the film moves steadily toward its long-awaited release.
