Why do we see this cavalcade of “flopolas” from Disney’s various brands? Indy Jones, the Marvels, now Wish? I know I’ve said this before, but…. the key to really understanding this whole debacle is… LEAD TIME.
A movie, animated or live action, reshoots or more reshoots, takes YEARS from idea to screen. Back when all these things were being devised and planned by the woke Disney folks, nobody’d seen those videos of them crowing about how management encouraged them to put woke stuff in their products, and they thought they were riding a huge wave of lefty wokism taking over the country and the planet. They SINCERELY BELIEVED they were the VANGUARD of a REVOLUTION!
And that was RIGHT about the time that the vast majority of Americans, who’d been asleep or out of synch or just bored with what they considered a minor, stupid, insultingly dumb movement, began to catch on that it was becoming pervasive and that time-honored brands, from Disney to Marvel to Pixar to Bud Light to Target and more, were being stripped of their decency and transformed–even while these companies took political stands on the vanguard of their woke revolt when before they’d taken NONE at all on ANY side and that was fine and smart and suddenly it was all getting VERY stupid!
BUT…the movies were in play, the productions were happening, the people involved were deep inside their bubbles with MILLIONS to spend!!! And let me tell you something that has ALWAYS been true about Hollywood and I’ve been-there/done-that and seen it all my lifelong career: When you pay people millions and/or give them authority to spend them, their natural, ego-driven, simple presumption is that they are WORTH it and thus pretty infallible and they are NEVER EVER wrong!
Couple that with the woke left revolt and their deep contempt for the rest of us that was brought to the surface by the election of Trump and, well…..the momentum is HUGE and now 3-4 years later these movies that any sensible person would have said “Hold the phone” on for purely economic reasons let alone worries about politics and sex and the rest are WITH US and coming one after another after another and confirming ALL of our darkest suspicions about these people and we are reacting with our feet, our tightly-closed wallets, and our protective measures for our kids and grandkids. LEAD TIME is DEADLY when you’re really, really, REALLY wrong, and Momentum is, with all due respect to Einstein’s appreciation of compound interest (which is kinda momentum if you think about it) the most POWERFUL force in the Universe. Disney and the rest had this huge inertia of motion going on and no wonder they are not just shocked but ready to blame everyone and anyone other than themselves!
After all, with all due respect to those immortal beheading guys from a Queen-themed non-Disney IP, THEY are the KINGS of the UNIVERSE and there can be only ONE point of view! That is the real answer to why this has happened, folks–momentum, inertia, and lead time. That plus monumental money-driven egos that can never, ever, once in their LIVES let alone in their work or business ask the simple question every TRULY successful human being has asked at every turning point and every decision moment: “What if we’re wrong?”
That NEVER HAPPENS at the House of Mouse. NEVER. And if you think flops like this will change that you haven’t really understood the power of their delusions and how deeply tied to their own over-inflated self respect this all is. To admit they were and are wrong is to admit they are useless and talentless and pointless and they JUST CAN’T DO IT…so they blame you, me, us, anyone.
Pathetic, but that’s all they have left. And their millions, of course, because hey, they can afford to insulate themselves from the consequences of their actions–whether hiring guards when they defund cops, building walls when they refuse to build one to protect us, or actually talking to, listening to, and dealing with the “deplorable” people who once upon a time actually paid those millions one movie ticket and theme park burger at a time. This is the twilight of the media gods, folks. The gotterdammerung of the Iger-KKites.
So be sad, but of good cheer. The fix is in: We win.
Truth always does in the end and if we haven’t yet and these craptastic flops are still coming out, it is because it isn’t the end yet. Get a DVD of GREAT movies of the past or 12 or 20 or 100, keep your kids home, and just wait it out.
They are crumbling just as surely as the Jungle Cruise and, hey, considering that, isn’t that really the metaphor for this entire situation? Fix the WOKENESS and ignore the structure? Change the MESSAGE and ignore the walls that hold it up? Change the CONTENT and ignore the budget and the bottom line? This, my friends, is the “backside of wokeness” and it doesn’t take an Albert Falls to figure it out.
What if it is already all OVER for these people and all the friendly California hedge funds in the universe couldn’t put Humpty Skywalker back together again? It won’t be pretty, or quick, but be of GOOD cheer. We win. They lose. The Universe works its wonders in ways the Panderverse cannot.
Trust me on this: They are SO over! That’s not “wish”-ful thinking folks–that’s the facts, Jack…or Bob…or Kathleen…or the rest of these poor, deluded boys and girls in Burbank.
There’s another adage: Time either promotes you or exposes you….and for Disney and the rest of the Panderverse Woke-alytes, their exposure time is up.
