Walt Disney World Resort is located in Florida, a more-and-more conservative state in America. Currently managed by Governor Ron DeSantis, the state has pushed back hard against vaccination mandates. Your feeling on those decisions is likely a derivative of your political beliefs. Here at That Park Place, we’ve been reticent to cover the issue. We’re not a political site, and the issue is inherently political, even though it directly impacts tourism at the biggest tourist destination in the world.
Rather than comment on the situation, we’d prefer to provide you some news coverage that seems worthy of attention. We’ll try to offer you some articles from around the political and philosophical spectrum… then you can determine your own thoughts based on a balanced presentation:
Newsweek Says that the Biden Administration is Furious with Florida:
I think the Disney piece is important to differentiate because, as they’re based in Florida and, obviously, the governor there has consistently taken steps to take steps backward, as it relates to fighting the pandemic, not forward,” Psaki said.
Fox Business Covers a Disney Cast Member Concerned About Mandates:
“That and a lot of cast members were looking to me because they were really scared. They didn’t want to lose their job, but they were scared to take the shot because everybody … a lot of us felt that it just wasn’t vetted long enough,” he said, “We weren’t against the vaccine. We just didn’t think that there was enough … We just thought it was too soon to totally trust it, and we just wanted to wait … And then, that just led me to take a stand and I just wanted to reason with Disney, then it turned into something else.”
USA Today Says Any Challenge to the Florida Governance Would Take Months or Years:
Carl Tobias, the Williams Chair in Law at the University of Richmond School of Law, told USA TODAY that legal challenges to the Florida law could take months or longer. A federal court has stayed the OSHA emergency standard that could have preempted the Florida law, and that litigation in appeals court may not be resolved until 2022 – after which the case could be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, Tobias said.
At this time, we believe approximately 90% of Disney World cast members are vaccinated. The numbers aren’t available on the remaining 10% as to whether or not they have previously recovered and developed antibodies for the virus. As with everything in this pandemic, each family and person must determine what is best for them; if you feel this news makes you unsafe at Disney World, so bet it. If you are unconcerned, so be it. Our goal here is to provide you with truthful information.
