A new rumor claims that Prime Video and Amazon Studios have cast actor Gavi Singh Chera to play Sauron in the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

This rumor comes from Fellowship of Fans on X, who shared, “EXCLUSIVE: Gavi Singh Chera will play ‘SAURON’ in THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER Season 2.”

The outlet added, “He will play the original form version of the character which is meant to be ‘angelic’ and ‘ethereal’ per sources.”

The outlet also claimed to have confirmed that Annatar is indeed a character listed for the show’s second season. However, they could not confirm whether or not Chera would be playing Annatar.

Can also finally confirm (Dr Nosy Report) that “Annatar” is a character name listed for The Rings Of Power Season 2. Though NO CONFIRMATION or evidence yet as to whether: Original Form Gavi = Annatar,” the outlet posted to X.

They also added, “In flashback scenes ‘Original Form Sauron’ (Gavi Singh Chera) will have long hair, in present day scenes in Eregion he apparently has shorter hair.”

They further detailed that the other Rings of Power that were distributed to the race of dwarves and humans will also be forged in the second season.

Fellowship of Fans posted, “As was expected, most of the Rings of Power will be forged in Season 2 in Celebrimbor’s Tower and given by Sauron to different races. Unconfirmed as to which form will be distributing the rings.”

Sauron took a number of forms during his time on Middle-earth. He was originally a gifted Maiar and the apprentice of Aulë known as Mairon. However, his desire for order and control corrupted him and he joined forces with Melkor. Under Melkor’s command he became known as Gorthaur by the Sindar of Beleriand and Sauron by others.

It’s possible either of these forms could be the “original form” of Sauron that the rumor references.

In fact a previous rumor from Fellowship of Fans detailed that a flashback scene would depict a battle between Sauron and the Orc leader Adar. They specifically noted that Sauron would be shown in a different form for this battle.

The outlet noted in November, “Sauron will switch forms and fight Adar using his Halbrand form (Charlie Vickers) and Original form (TBC) *in one of the early episodes.* This is the same scene but actors filmed on separate days.

If he’s playing Annatar it would most definitely be a race-swap, and wouldn’t make any sense given Annatar was the form that Sauron took to deceive the Elves in the creation of the Rings of Power, and he already partially did that in his Halbrand form in the first season.

Author J.R.R. Tolkien wrote in The Silmarillion, “Men he found the easiest to sway of all the people of the Earth; but long he sought to persuade the Elves to his service, for he knew that the Firstborn had the greater power; and he went far and wide among them, and his hue was still that of one both fair and wise. … Sauron took to himself the name of Annatar, the Lord of Gifts, and they had at first much profit his friendship.”

The Rings of Power being forged and distributed is a no brainer. The show is after all called the Rings of Power. However, the show’s first season made a huge misstep in how they depicted the rings being forged.

The show only showed the three Elven rings being forged. Not only did they show the Elven rings being forged, but they made it abundantly clear that Sauron was involved with their forging.

In Letter 131 Tolkien informed Milton Waldman, “The Elves of Eregion made Three supremely beautiful and powerful rings, almost solely of their own imagination, and directed to the preservation of beauty: they did not confer invisibility. But secretly in the subterranean Fire, in his own Black Land, Sauron made One Ring, the Ruling Ring that contained the powers of all the others, and controlled them, so that its wearer could see the thoughts of all those that used the lesser rings, could govern all that they did, and in the end could utterly enslave them.”

Clearly, he noted that Sauron was not directly involved with the forging of these Three Elven rings.

Not only did he make it clear that Sauron was not involved in the forging of the Elven rings, but in The Silmarillion, he also described how they were forged last.

He wrote, “Now these were the Three that had last been made, and they possessed the greatest powers. Narya, Nenya, and Vilya, they were named, the Rings of Fire, and of Water, and of Air, set with ruby and adamant and sapphire; and of all the Elven-rings Sauron most desired to possess them, for those who had them in their keeping could ward off the decays of time and postpone the weariness of the world.”
