Things could be going from bad to worse when it comes to Lucasfilm’s ability to get a successful movie onto theaters.
The following article is based on rumor and speculation using third party sources for gathering information regarding an unfinished product. Please read it as such.
What does one do when a movie about Rey post-sequel trilogy just isn’t ready for prime time and executives feel it’s a terribly risky film for returning Star Wars out of box office hibernation? Well, if you’re scrambling to save a theatrical release window, you might find a season finale for a Disney Plus show, retrofit it so that it’s movie-material, and then claim it’s the start to a brand new trilogy. Even if you don’t announce it outright, so long as scoopers are catching wind of it, that’s a great thing for your marketing. Now you’ve gone from a studio that must rip a couple of episodes off of streaming to use as a fail-safe movie substitute… to a glorious assembly line of production which has never had so many film projects in development.
That’s how the game is played. According to our sources, there are more games being played. We think you might be interested.
According to our sources, all production on The Mandalorian Season Four is being moved from Manhattan Beach to the United Kingdom. This is to create a shared cinematic appearance for episodes 1-6. Then episodes 7-8 will also look the same, but they’re going to be a movie now. But there is a significant problem that Lucasfilm might have with turning episodes 7-8 into a major motion picture.
You see, when Jon Favreau wrote seasons three and four, they were never intended to be series finales. That, I am told, was intended to happen in season five. Whether or not a season five happens now is anyone’s guess. But season three was a significant letdown and season four was supposed to be a series of semi-disconnected adventures for Din and Grogu. Think of it like a time for Din to really train Grogu in the ways of the Mandalorians before the adventures reach their climax in the years after. So how do you take that premise and turn the finale into a leaping point for a trilogy of films that should all tie into Thrawn, Ahsoka and other extremely disliked Dave Filoni projects across the Star Wars Mandoverse?
Well, you bring in Dave Filoni, of course.
Our sources now tell us that what Lucasfilm has opted to do as a result of the need to significantly delay Rey is the following:
The original scripts for Season Four will continue to be used for episodes 1-6. For the final two episodes, however, Dave Filoni will “plus” the “treatments” so that they are no longer just a season finale, but rather they are the beginning of the great theatrical drama that is Clone Wars and Rebels characters taking on Thrawn. Whether any of those characters will show up in this movie, I do not know — I only believe based on my conversations with those who have been privy to these things in the past, that it will at least set up all of that “excitement”. I also have spoken with one source (who has been right in the past but who is the sole source for this information) who says that Disney very much wants to see Luke Skywalker at least make a cameo appearance in the movie. In the past, we have reported that Lucasfilm told merchandising partners the Luke Skywalker was “cobwebbed”. I still believe that to be the case, but they’re happy to bring him back for a brief, CGI appearance so they can market the character, sell toys and try to draw back an audience for the first Star Wars film in many years. Failing with this one would be a huge setback for the entire franchise. If they are desperate, they may use him for more. It’s expensive though and right now even this Star Wars project has Disney squeamish.
Moreover, I am told that Disney executives were likely not pleased with having to go this route. It’s risky to modify a television season finale into a movie. It was riskier to go with what they had with Rey. That was apparently two scripts which were unworkable and a director who is loudly subversive to the C-Suite.
But that’s where things stand at this moment and why I’m more concerned than ever before about this movie. If Jon Favreau is in charge, I feel better about it. That’s not, unfortunately, what I am told now. Though I cannot prove it, my sources now lead me to believe that Dave Filoni is ultimately in charge of this script. And after Ahsoka, he has much to prove.

It’s going to be a disjointed, confusing mess. Literally kitbashing movies together, lol.
The kitchen is closed gentlemen. You and others like you are being foolish if the news you are reporting is true. Filoni touching up a script for a movie that is a half measure after his performance on his debut show especially. You are being too kind and Disney / Lucasfilm is being especially foolish.
1. Lucasfilm isn’t ready to use Luke again. Not as a gimmick, not as a tool, not ready at all.
2. The inspection is complete and there is a need to condemn the actions of Lucasfilm.
3. Mando is done. Lucasfilm has a star that would rather do just voice work. They have a show they ruined by their actions.
So I imagine Mr. Bergman has good reason to have private arguments with Mr. Iger but again I eye 2027 and suggest Lucasfilm give me a shot and let me pitch my stories which will reinvigorated the studio and begin to fix what has gone so wrong. https://youtu.be/umqAwhGMUaA?feature=shared
Another movie no one asked for.
