Lorn Conner sits down for an exclusive That Park Place video review of the latest Mandalorian episode. Is this more like Episode 2 or more like Episode 3? Or is it somewhere in between?
….or “I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”
This season of the Mandalorian has been a roller coaster of episodes that I truly enjoyed, and those that have frustrated me or left me baffled with their storytelling decisions. Episode 5 continues this trend, and Lucasfilm is running out of time – do you think they can right the narrative ship and get this story on track?

I think most of your comments are spot on though my impression isn’t the New Republic finds it self defenseless but of limited resources. I’d be interested to know the actual filming dates of this season. Season 2 had been filmed in its entirety before covid hit in March ’20. If this season was filmed in 2021 under more strict covid protocols I think that could have an appreciable impact on quality, not to mention it diverted probably 20% of the budget towards covid compliance. Also, this season it seems that both Filoni and Favreau were more hands off. Yes, Favreau is credited as writing and of course is still producer but Rick Famuyiwa is the actual day to day producer for this season. Though he directed some great episodes in the past perhaps cutting his teeth on Season 3 with a larger role there are some growing pains, and they may have also moved new people in to behind the scenes roles as the previous crews transitioned to Ahsoka. I think more importantly it looks like at least over the 5 episodes thus far the budget for VFX has not been consistent. This season has felt like it’s meandering, burdened with being an adventure of the week and also trying to be a mystery AND serve as a launching pad for more Mando-verse Disney+ series. It’s a tough act to follow season 2 AND attempt to carry the whole weight of the franchise. Though my personal feeling is ultimately we’ll find out the viewership for this season is really not all that dire. There is still enough there to enjoy.
