Some pieces to the puzzle around Tim Allen’s replacement as Buzz Lightyear are starting to come together…
You would think that the voice of Buzz Lightyear since the nineties would be all abuzz about the new movie starring his famous character. However, as Lightyear prepares to take off with Chris Evans voicing the space ranger for the very first time, the man who gave Buzz his voice for decade is suddenly silent. Tim Allen was not seen at the Lightyear premiere, he hasn’t given a positive statement about the movie and he isn’t even tweeting about the subject at all.
Instead, Tim the Tool Man is busy tweeting lighthearted jokes about gender identity. And with that, it’s not hard for us to see why Pixar might have wanted to stay away from the Last Man Standing.
Took some kids to Disneyland and overheard a 13 year old boy wondering if he may be pansexual since he loves skillets.

Rather than seeing Tim on the red carpet or watching him pal around with Chris Evans, we’re getting justification stories like crazy out an access media empire that knows the public likely isn’t going to enjoy the new Buzz compared to the old Buzz. Yahoo! News wants you to know the real reason Tim Allen isn’t voicing Buzz this go-around. The Cheat Sheet is busy reminding you that Tim Allen hasn’t voiced Buzz Lightyear for every single iteration of the character in every single piece of media he’s ever been in. Cairns Post wants you to know that Chris Evans got Tim Allen out of his head when he played Buzz for this movie.
Based on the various articles, there’s really only one thing we can determine to be factual. It doesn’t seem that Tim Allen was ever approached to play Buzz Lightyear in this movie. It may be a costly decision for the movie makers, but the people behind PIxar may not be worried about little things like alienating an audience. The’re in it for the cultural impact… and we’ll find out soon enough if this is a movie that makes that happen or if audiences sour on more than just Buzz’s voice being completely changed.

Decent opening weekend. Big drop after.
Has Disney released presale numbers yet?
And we all know that if it has anything remotely successful for its first weekend… remotely… the mainstream and access media are going to declare “victory” as fast as they possibly can. Gotta win the narrative war.
Turns out Buzz is a wuss. Nice going Disney!
If it’s a decent opening weekend as Valliant portends, we’re screwed.
Don’t fall for the media’s trick. This is a two-weekend test. If the drop is significant for the second weekend, it will mean that word got out to all the casual families who don’t follow this sort of thing.
Same trick, different movie.
I hope Tim Allen stays out of it. Let the movie die by it’s own awful divisive nature. Then he can kind of give a smile when asked about how bad it was. He’ll come out looking like the golden guy he actually is.
