I keep saying studios made horrible mistakes getting into streaming and this is just one example of why. They didn’t know what they were getting into or how much it would cost. Disney in particular has shown great incompetence at it. Every streaming service needs to earn a minimum amount of ad revenue to fulfill broadcasting contracts and Disney has failed to do at every turn. That’s why ESPN lost the NFL and NBA contracts and why they might just lose every other major league sport.
Then you have the technical issues. If the team in charge of running things knows what they’re doing and what to check for, things can still go wrong but they can usually get them fixed or a workaround implemented in a few minutes at most. If the team is too small, or they don’t know what to do, you get situations like this.
Customers and clients don’t care. They just know things were interrupted and they didn’t get what was promised. Which is often also a part of the contract: a minimum level of reliability to be maintained. Again, something Disney has consistently failed to provide.
