Tom Cruise still has a need for speed as he will develop a third Top Gun film at Paramount Pictures. Not only is Cruise developing a third Top Gun film at Paramount, but he also signed a sweeping deal to develop films at Warner Bros.

Tom Cruise plays Capt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in Top Gun: Maverick from Paramount Pictures, Skydance and Jerry Bruckheimer Films.
Matthew Belloni at Puck reports Ehren Kruger, the co-writer of Top Gun: Maverick is working on the third installment. The film is expected to see Cruise reunite with Miles Teller and Glen Powell who played Lt. Bradyer ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw and Lt. Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin.
Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison are also on board to produce with Joe Kosinski either directing or producing the film.
Belloni claims the film could be Cruise’s next one following the eighth Mission Impossible film he’s currently working on.

Miles Teller revealed he was in discussions with Cruise for a follow-up to Top Gun: Maverick back in 2022.
He told Entertainment Tonight, “I’ve been having some conversations with him [Tom Cruise] about it. We’ll see. That would be great, but that’s all up to TC. It’s all up to Tom.”
The film’s director Joseph Kosinski also said during an appearance at Deadline’s Contenders LA3C panel, “Is there another story that is compelling enough that we need to go back? It seems to me at the end of this film that Maverick has some gas left in the tank. He’s not settling down.”

This report about the third Top Gun film comes after Warner Bros. Discovery announced a new production deal with Cruise.
In their press release the production company stated, “Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group’s Co-Chairs and CEOs Michael De Luca & Pam Abdy and Tom Cruise today announced they will jointly develop and produce original and franchise theatrical films starring Cruise in 2024 under a new strategic partnership between Cruise and Warner Bros. Discovery.”
The released added, “Cruise and his production company will have offices on the Warner Bros. Discovery lot in Burbank.”

Cruise said of the deal, “I have great respect and admiration for David, Pam, Mike, and the entire team at Warner Bros. Discovery and their commitment to movies, movie fans, and the theatrical experience. I look forward to making great movies together!”
De Luca and Abdy added in a joint statement, “We are thrilled to be working with Tom, an absolute legend in the film industry. Our vision, from day one, has been to rebuild this iconic studio to the heights of its glory days, and, in fact, when we first sat down with David Zaslav to talk about joining the Warner Bros. Discovery team, he said to us, ‘We are on a mission to bring Warner Bros. back – we have the best resources, storytelling IP, and talent in the business – and we need to bring Tom Cruise back to Warner Bros!’ Today, that becomes a reality and we are one step closer to achieving our ambition. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Tom back to Warner Bros. and look forward to bringing more of his genius to life on screen in the years ahead.”
Some of Cruise’s best movies were done at Warner Bros. They include Edge of Tomorrow, Rock of Ages, The Last Samurai, Eyes Wide Shut, Interview with the Vampire, Risky Business, and The Outsiders.

It’s quite possible one of those franchise films that he could develop will be a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow. A sequel to the film was reportedly greenlit back in 2019, but it hasn’t gone anywhere.
Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr. reported at the time, “Warner Bros is developing a sequel to the crowd pleasing summer 2014 hit Edge Of Tomorrow. Matthew Robinson (The Invention Of Lying) pitched a take and has been brought on to write the sequel. The intention is to bring back director Doug Liman and stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, who played warriors fighting vicious alien invaders in Europe.”
A TV series based on the manga and the film adaptation would also seemingly be in development in 2022. The show’s development was uncovered as Village Roadshow filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros.
The lawsuit stated, “More recently, WB made the decision to go forward with a television series based on Edge of Tomorrow, another Village Roadshow film.” Neither the sequel nor the television show moved forward.

Actress Emily Blunt, who starred alongside Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow made it clear she was interested in doing a sequel telling Deadline, “Well, I would love to do another one. I don’t know when and I don’t know how, but I would love it. I don’t know if my back could take it.”
She added, “I loved the experience so much, and I would love to work with Doug [Liman] again. It’s like we have to create something as ambitious as the first one. How much more mileage can we get out of a repeating day? What’s the new construct?”
