Walt Disney World has set its yearly water park swap. Typhoon Lagoon will reopen on January 27, 2027, and Blizzard Beach will close for refurbishment that same day.

Disney has not announced when Blizzard Beach will reopen. For now, the plan keeps one water park open through the cooler months.

Typhoon Lagoon Returns After a Fall Break

Disney’s wording is direct: “Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park will reopen on January 27, 2027.”

Typhoon Lagoon has been closed since September 9 for its seasonal refurbishment. By reopening day, the park will have been dark for about four and a half months.

This is the second refurbishment for Typhoon Lagoon in 2026. The park also closed for about three months last winter before reopening on May 12.

Disney has not said what work took place during either closure. Water parks need routine maintenance on slides, pumps, and the wave pool, so long seasonal breaks are normal for both parks.

Blizzard Beach Takes Its Turn

Blizzard Beach closes on the day Typhoon Lagoon returns. Disney says, “On January 27, 2027, Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park will temporarily close for refurbishment.”

The ski resort-themed park reopened on February 15, 2026. It has carried the water park schedule on its own since Typhoon Lagoon closed in September.

Guests heading to Disney World in late January and February should plan around Typhoon Lagoon only. Anyone counting on Summit Plummet or Teamboat Springs will need to wait for Disney to post a reopening date.

What This Means for Summer Trips

Both water parks operated together starting May 12 this year. BlogMickey expects the same pattern in 2027, with both parks open again by summer.

That matters for families planning a hot-weather trip. Two open water parks spread out crowds and give guests a choice between the Typhoon Lagoon surf pool and the snowcapped slides at Blizzard Beach.

Water park days also work best with a little flexibility. Afternoon storms can close slides for a stretch, so a morning arrival gives families the most time on the attractions.

Typhoon Lagoon is the right park for the cooler stretch. Its heated surf pool and lazy river Castaway Creek make it a comfortable choice when Florida mornings start in the 50s or 60s.

Guests can check the Walt Disney World water park calendar before booking a day. Disney posts operating hours and any weather closures there first.

Annual Passholders and Water Park and Sports add-on holders can use either park while it is open. That makes the swap a simple calendar change for most guests rather than a lost benefit.

The swap is routine, but the dates are useful. Winter visitors now know which park to book, and summer visitors have good reason to expect both parks to be back in the rotation.
