I keep asking this question: are other companies even interested in licensing out You Be Soft’s IPs? Going from what I know, the answer is an emphatic, “NO!” Not from a lack of interest but a lack of money. Why would they bother paying a licensing fee when their next attempt at a game can just an IP they already own and fail miserably without added costs?
As for You Be Soft employees, their fears are founded but also misplaced. This is a gamble and one that doesn’t feel like it’s going to pay off. They won’t be fired just because of the formation of this new shell company–let’s just call what it is, okay?–but because the entire company has finally collapsed. On the off chance this does pay off, it was designed to channel revenue into the parent company to pay off its debts and then it has to pay off what Tencent invested in it. That’s at least seven-billion net profit as of right now. The more debt the parent company accrues, the more net profit the shell has to earn to truly pay off.
It’s afraid!
Hostile takeover by China, to propagate Chinese propaganda. DEI Ubisoft has no defence.
