You have to really trust a franchise in order to make it the entrance-themed land of your major theme park.
While The Walt Disney Company is doubling down on their overseas expansions with little fanfare, their scrappy competitor across the way is using everything they have to draw in the crowds. Universal Studios Orlando is beginning the marketing push for Minion’s Land, a “new” area coming to Universal Orlando Resort in 2024.
You might have been in Minion’s Land without even knowing it. Universal Orlando is repurposing the existing elements of their original resort and adding in a little spice to put it over the top. Even if you’re veering off to the right to hit The Simpsons Ride or passing through to get to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, you simply cannot avoid going through Minion’s Land. Recent guests have probably seen the new Minions / Despicable Me Villains Con building that’s peeking over the construction barriers where Shrek 4D used to be.
According to some sources, Villains Con will have guests become super villain recruits to face off against a variety of Gru’s rivals in a climactic battle that which is sure to end in a timely manner that will allow for the next set of theme park attendees to do it again as soon as they leave.
Until that happens, the main attraction in Minion’s Land will continue to be Minion Mayhem, a 3D motion-based dark ride that “transforms” guests into the eponymous characters from the Minions film franchise as they celebrate their villain Gru and his family.
In addition to Minion Mayhem and Villain Con, Minion’s Land will also feature a play area for children, a themed restaurant, and a gift shop. The play area, called Super Silly Fun Zone, will feature a variety of Minion-themed activities, such as slides, swings, and fountains. The area is designed to be a fun and interactive space for kids of all ages to let loose and be silly. Children can slide down Gru’s rocket, swing on Minion swings, and splash around in Minion fountains.
The themed restaurant, called Minion Cafe, will serve Minion-inspired food and drinks, such as banana split sundaes, Gru’s custard cups, and Minion pancakes. The cafe is a great place to grab a bite to eat and refuel before exploring the rest of Minion’s Land.
