Is law enforcement beginning to tighten the circle around its investigation into Alec Baldwin and the shooting that killed an innocent movie director?
According to Jazz Shaw and KOAT Action News, Santa Fe County County police have issued a search warrant for Alec Baldwin’s phone, citing the possibility of additional evidence on the device. This allegedly comes on the heels of Baldwin informing investigators that he would not give up his phone unless they had a search warrant. Is that via advice from his attorneys, or is that a sign that Baldwin might have something to hide? Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in the United States, so we don’t presume to know what is on that phone (or was), but if the phone is evidence, it probably doesn’t make many friends to require investigators get a warrant. It’s also interesting that a judge must have decided whatever investigators are looking for on the phone was significant enough to grant the warrant.
Santa Fe County Sheriff has issued a warrant with the Santa Fe County Magistrate Court, for Alec Baldwin’s cell phone Thursday afternoon.
They say they believe there are key conservations on Baldwin’s phone, related to the investigation on the “Rust” movie set in Santa Fe.
Documents show investigators asked Baldwin for his phone, but he told them they needed to get a warrant.
A key thing to watch for in this situation is whether or not Baldwin deleted records from the phone in the days after the shooting. That likely wouldn’t be made public until a potential trial, but if it occurred it will not sit well with a future prosecutor.

Baldwin’s behavior as of late has been “odd”. I don’t know that I would recommend to a suspect of potential murder that they rush a person with a camera on public property. I don’t know that I would recommend that they also do an interview in which they declare they let go of “the hammer” on a real gun while it was pointed at another human being. These are what one might call “unwise”. For Baldwin, however, a series of unwise life decisions may be catching up to the actor.
