Should we start to have our hopes up?
Star Wars has been a bit like a bad relationship. Sometimes we get incredible pieces of entertainment, such as the season two finale for The Mandalorian. Then, Lucasfilm fires Gina Carano in a nasty PR maneuver that reminds us all how political things are behind the scenes. Then, people begin to give another chance due to Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. People tune in for Luke training Grogu. That is followed up by rainbow-colored vespas and screwing up the Boba Fett character we all wanted to be “bad action.” So pardon everyone if we’re really, really skeptical of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

That said, Disney is very confident in this one. They’re so confident, they’re pinning much of their advertising pitch for future Disney+ commercials on this series. They’re so confident they’re going up against Stranger Things Volume 4 with this series. Will it pay off? I don’t know, but the trailer looks amazing.
I guess we’re all hoping at this point: “Please don’t screw this up. Please stop being overtly political for just six episodes.”
Can they do it?

If Obiwan ends up a bait and switch like the MCU shows, Star Wars is done. This show had better be about Obiwan and not some sidekick/character that shows him ‘the way’ to be a hero.
I fully agree this is a make-or-break for a huge swath of fans.
The same thing will happen that is happening with Marvel. The brand slowly tanks as it continues to release things that aren’t appointment television or movies. Where it gets a little more confusing is what is a brand? Is “the Mandalorian” a different brand from “Star Wars”? Is Sony a different brand from “the Marvel universe”? We may end up / already be in a situation where the Madalorian draws viewers but Star Wars doesn’t anymore. That can change with each release depending on if they rank “must see” or “okay”.
I’ve got a bad feeling about this….
The Show makes it seem as if the Inquisitors are pursuing Obi Wan. The Movie gave me the impression that the Empire had no idea of where Obi Wan was or, if he was even alive. *If* I watch this, I’m waiting till I know for certain that they aren’t going to screw this up… Like with Book of Boba Fett
“Star Wars is done.”
I love the internet. Some of y’all are too online. I’ve been hearing “Star Wars is done” my entire life. If the prequels didn’t kill Star Wars then one “so so” TV series isn’t going to kill Star Wars. I really don’t understand why people are so hyperbolic about individual piece of entertainment. FWIW, the general synopsis of this series is already out there. The marketing hasn’t revealed how much Leia is involved (a lot).
Anyway, I finished Moon Knight last night and to me that was the biggest misfire from Marvel so far. I don’t think I could even explain what happened. So far Lucasfilm has been much better at telling stories on Disney+ than Marvel. I know some people hated Boba Fett (I enjoyed it), but I’d gladly rewatch Fett over and over instead of watching any of these Marvel shows so far.
