Seasonal creations for streaming platforms are big business because they can be recycled and used for decades to come.
How long has Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer been making money? It turns out that seasonal movies and shows, which are often some of the cheapest to produce, also tend to have a phenomenal shelf life. So it’s not surprising that Netflix is working to get in on the game. Sadly, not every attempt is a success. Does everyone remember Seth Rogen’s attempt at a Santa Claus raunchy comedy that went belly up faster than a tank full of fish at a just-closed pet store?
This time, Netflix is turning to a Tim Burton style stop motion Halloween movie that they’re undoubtedly hoping can be their next Nightmare Before Christmas. It’s a gamble, sure, but it’s not much of one. They’ve teamed up Henry Selick of the stop motion classics with Jordan Peele, whose latest movie was a flop, but that might not matter here. People love Halloween… and anything that reminds them of Coraline or The Corpse Bride on Netflix is probably going to garner eyeballs.
