Wacko Wicked Press Tour Put on Ice After Erivo’s Voice Fails and Grande Opts Out “In Solidarity” — Did Universal Pull the Plug on Weird Interviews?

The Wicked: For Good press tour was abruptly suspended in New York City just days before the movie’s release, with Hollywood outlets claiming Cynthia Erivo “lost her voice” and Ariana Grande refused to continue press appearances without her.

But the official narrative isn’t sitting well with online observers. After all, since when does a singer temporarily losing her voice require a full-blown solidarity pact from her co-star, complete with the studio shutting down scheduled interviews?

It’s a question fans, influencers, and industry watchers have been asking nonstop since the news broke. Speculation has only intensified because the Wicked press tour had already become something of a spectacle for reasons Universal probably didn’t anticipate.

The Growing Oddness of Wicked Press Tour Interviews

Long before the Wicked: For Good press tour was pulled, fans noticed something unusual about the promotional circuit. Instead of straightforward discussions about the film, fans were treated to a highlight reel of baffling moments featuring Grande and Erivo seemingly locked in their own private wavelength — one that didn’t always translate to the rest of the audience. Or, you know, Planet Earth…

The most widely mocked clip came from an interview where the actresses earnestly discussed the “colors of their auras” while staring deeply into each other’s eyes as if unlocking cosmic mysteries. It didn’t take long for that segment to ricochet across the internet, becoming the punchline of jokes about Hollywood self-importance.

Then things escalated.

In another viral clip, a helicopter could be heard passing overhead. For most actors promoting a movie that would be an inconsequential interruption.

But not this time.

Cynthia Erivo buried her face in her hands as though a catastrophe had struck, while Ariana Grande waved her arms over her head as if she were trying to swat away a wasp. The moment was dramatic enough that even sympathetic media outlets couldn’t ignore it.

Add in the interviews where the duo clutched each other, teared up, drifted into spacey monologues, and generally behaved more like séance participants than performers in one of Universal’s biggest releases of the year, and the pattern became impossible to overlook.

Online commentary was merciless.

That’s why some industry watchers aren’t buying the “Cynthia lost her voice and Ariana stood in solidarity” explanation for the Wicked press tour shutdown. The timing is just too convenient.

Hollywood studios routinely push ahead with press obligations even when stars are exhausted, sick, or barely holding it together. Losing your voice is an inconvenience, not a crisis. Yet suddenly, Universal decided that not only could Erivo not continue — but Grande couldn’t do interviews solo, either.

It was an all-or-nothing deal.

That’s when fans began speculating that the studio may have wanted the tour stopped anyway — and simply used the voice-loss explanation as a clean, uncontroversial exit ramp.

Because the truth is simple: the interviews were going viral for the wrong reasons.

Every new clip fed another wave of mockery. Every new appearance became another opportunity for memes. A press tour meant to sell the magic of Oz had turned into a rolling PR hazard. And the closer the film got to release, the clearer it became that the actresses’ increasingly unpredictable behavior might overshadow the movie itself.

In that context, the shutdown feels less like solidarity and more like strategy.

A Press Tour That Told Its Own Story

Whether Universal halted the Wicked: For Good press tour to mitigate online ridicule, or because the official explanation is entirely true, one thing is clear: this was no ordinary promotional campaign.

The film will eventually speak for itself — but the press tour already has. And the story it told was chaotic, unpredictable, and impossible to ignore.

If Universal truly wanted to stop the media circus, it may have acted just in time. Whether it was to hide the odd interviews… or to hide from them… remains to be seen.

Insert Grumpy_cat_good.jpg. Surely they must have been told by their crystals or Ouija board this would happen. There would have been perturbations in their auras indicating this would happen.

But, as Bob Ross would say, what a nice Happy Accident.

They got a good talking to, and got told they are not gonna be given the chance to do a Zegler, by shooting their mouths off (and sinking the movie).

Is it just me or do these “starlets” look like freaks from some sci-fi horror movie?

“In Solidarity” – That is not how you behave as a professional. When there’s hundreds of millions at stake, you do what you are told. So, this is clearly a cover-up. These starlets are loose cannons, and they’ve been forced to STFU.

Any reasoning that keeps Erivo’s mouth closed is a good thing; no matter how well she may or may not sing, it’s ridiculous that she continues to get work when she deliberately chooses to look that repulsive…

CleatusDefeatus

Two of the most “oppressable”………. “talents” out there.

Try as you might, you can’t keep a cork in the pigs’ mouths.
