Don't look now, but SNL-alum Will Ferrell is here to save the day for Leslye Headland.
Headland, Harvey Weinstein's personal assistant during her tenure at Miramax, has experienced a significant career opportunity with the upcoming film adaptation of her Broadway play, Cult of Love. This revival comes after the cancellation of her Star Wars series, The Acolyte, which faced challenges including high production costs and fan backlash. Headland's Star Wars effort had reportedly been a three season followed by a movie roadmap, but was shut down immediately after the final episode amidst horrific ratings and out-of-control budget issues. The Acolyte received a 78% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes but was utterly rejected by audiences. Disney cited the show's $230 million production cost as a factor in its cancellation. Efforts to blame fans and unproven "cancel campaigns" were ultimately ineffective.
