Actor Harvey Guillén, who voiced Gabo in Wish, claims he believes Disney will create “a queer princess” in his lifetime.

THIS WISH – In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Wish,” Asha is invited to see where King Magnfico keeps all of the wishes given to him by those in his kingdom. Featuring the voices of Academy Award®-winning actress Ariana DeBose as Asha and Chris Pine as King Magnifico, the epic animated musical “Wish” hits the big screen on Nov. 22, 2023. ©.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Guillén said, “I think they’re making strides in the right direction. I think it’s hard to rebuild a wheel that’s already been in motion for a while, and it’s hard to think of a new direction, especially in where we’re at with the world, but they’re putting their best foot forward, I think. And sometimes those things take time and I’m optimistic.”
He then added, “And like you said, if a queer princess comes along, that’d be fantastic.”

VERY VALENTINO – In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Wish,” Asha’s pajama-wearing goat Valentino follows her wherever she goes. Adorable and wise, Valentino could teach humans a thing or two about perseverance. And when his wish to speak comes true—everyone is surprised, especially Valentino. “And I think that we are in the lifespan of that potentially happening,” Guillén said. “And that could be a reality. It’s just, like I said, it takes time with stuff like that.”
He concluded, “Representation has taken so long just in film in general with every studio and every company. And so it’s taken us this far to come this far but look how far we’ve gotten.”

BEST WISHES – Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Wish” is set in Rosas, a magical kingdom where wishes really do come true. The film introduces Asha, a sharp-witted idealist who’s invited to see first-hand where King Magnifico keeps the wishes of those who’ve entrusted him with their deepest desires. Featuring the voices of Academy Award® winner Ariana DeBose as Asha and Chris Pine as Magnifico, the all-new musical-comedy is helmed by Oscar®-winning director Chris Buck (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”) and Fawn Veerasunthorn (“Raya and the Last Dragon”), produced by Peter Del Vecho (“Frozen,” “Frozen 2”) and co-produced by Juan Pablo Reyes (“Encanto”). “Wish” opens only in theaters on Nov. 22, 2023. © 2023 Disney. If this does indeed happen it’s likely to lose The Walt Disney Company millions of dollars as seen with Lightyear.
Back in March 2022 it was reported that the film would feature a same-sex couple with Variety reporting the film “does feature a significant female character, Hawthorne (voiced by Uzo Aduba), who is in a meaningful relationship with another woman.”
Following this report the film released in June and bombed at the box office. It only grossed $118.3 million domestically and $100.4 million international for a total global gross of $218.7 million.
The movie had a production budget of $200 million meaning it needed to gross $500 million to break even.

MAKING SPACE – Disney and Pixar’s “Lightyear” introduces Alisha Hawthorne (voice of Uzo Aduba), Buzz’s long-time commander, fellow Space Ranger and trusted friend. Directed by Angus MacLane (co-director “Finding Dory”) and produced by Galyn Susman (“Toy Story That Time Forgot”), the sci-fi action-adventure opens in U.S. theaters on June 17, 2022. © 2022 Disney/Pixar. The film was the beginning of a catastrophic run at the box office by The Walt Disney Company and its subsidiaries. In fact, Wish was part of that disastrous performance at the box office. The film only grossed $63.9 million domestically and another $175 million internationally for a global gross of $239 million.
It had a production budget of $200 million as well meaning it needed $500 million to break even.

SORCERER KING – In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Wish,” King Magnifico has the magical ability to grant wishes. But when 17-year-old Asha is compelled to challenge the powerful sorcerer, Magnifico turns to a forbidden resource. Featuring the voices of Chris Pine as King Magnifico and Academy Award®-winning actress Ariana DeBose as Asha, the epic animated musical “Wish” hits the big screen on Nov. 22, 2023. © 2023 Disney.
