YouTuber Emmy Speens called for supporters of Kotaku and its writers specifically Alyssa Mercante to get “militant” and push gamers “out of our spaces.”

Speens did a YouTube livestream primarily criticizing Smash JT and Grummz aka Mark Kern for their criticisms of Mercante and Kotaku. At around the 1:06 mark of her stream Speens shared her opinions that gamers must support Kotaku, “I think as gamers we should be supporting them vocally. And I’m trying to.”

“But I’m a big, dumb, angry idiot and I don’t know how to do it without getting upset and offensive because I’m tired of having this conversation that ends up just being a one-sided defense of my right to exist. Because eventually these people click on my profile and then they’ll see that I’m a sex worker and even regardless of me being a sex worker, the fact that I’m a woman, clearly. There’s nothing that can ever be done or rationalized with these people when this s**t comes up.”

Speens then declared, “That’s why I think we do have to start being militant about like pushing them out of our spaces. And that’s a threat for anyone out there who is watching. There’s nobody f***ing watching me, but I’m just saying people like this need to not be welcome.”

Next, Speens said, “That’s not a threat against your physical wellness. It’s a threat against you being able to spew hate peacefully because you’ve been spewing hate peacefully and profitably for too long. For too long we’ve let people do this to us. We’ve let them into our friends and family and told ourselves, ‘Oh that’s f***ing annoying, but that’s f***ing gamers.’ How many more like Gamergate 1, 2, 3s do we have to before we’re like, ‘These people aren’t gamers. They’re f***ing babies. They’re perpetual victims to a website they don’t have to read.”

“You choose to be a victim to a website nobody makes you read,” she said. “You choose to be victimized by someone that goes out of their way to disengage from you and block you. You are being victimized by your own behavior and blaming it on a woman. That is obsessive weirdo s**t.”

Speens goes on to accuse Grummz, Smash JT, and their supporters of the stereotypical -ists and -phobes, “You are reposting transphobic memes. You are bringing up that she’s a sex worker at every turn. You are being so weird about everything. We can see it.”

Next, she defended Mercante messaging Smash JT’s wife regarding his various YouTube videos regarding Mercante’s comments as well as his petition to get Kotaku shut down. Mercante informed SmashJT earlier this month, “Anyway I found your wife’s Facebook and asked what she thinks about the father of her children harassing a woman online and laughing when she shares that someone they’re supporting has been threatening to kill them for weeks.”

Speens said, “Your wife should know because your children are a factor in her mind. Wouldn’t you want to know if your wife was making content about a man obsessively? As obsessively as this person has. Wouldn’t you want to know if your partner for life was acting like a creep?”

“This idea that you wouldn’t is bulls**t. This idea that privately DMing someone when it’s public information that this person is your partner that that compromises her security. That’s bulls**t. You’re lying. You’re lying so you can be a victim so you can attack her more. You’re just lying to yourself and to me and I’m not going to play dumb and accept it. No, you’re not a victim. You’re not unsafe. You’ve never been unsafe. You have been the antagonistic force in this. You have contributed to violent rhetoric. You have contributed to rhetoric that can turn violent. You have contributed to annoying the piss out of me and everyone that is too embarrassed now to associate themselves with the video gaming community.”

Ironically, when Smash JT shared a clip of Speen’s video to X, Speen denied she made a threat despite clearly stating she made a threat.

Smash JT wrote, “Threats made to gamers (from yet another sex worker), after coming into video game industry, now attempting to gatekeep you out. Make no mistake, this has been their plan from the start. Fortunately, they’re too stupid to make any sense.”

He added, “Here’s your 15 mins of fame Emmy Speens – I’ve unblocked you like you asked. Let me guess, this is harassment too? Stick to OnlyFans, GTFOH.”

Speens replied, “So where’s the threat? I even said multiple times IN THE VIDEO ‘I predict he’s going to pretend to be threatened to his audience even though I’m clearly not threatening him.’ LOL.”

What do you make of Speens threat and call for Kotaku supporters to get militant? What do you make of the fact that she denied the threat later?

Emmy, these are our spaces. We were here first. We are natives. It is you–the newcomers–who are not welcome if you try to colonize us into your woke neo culture instead of integrating yourselves into our fun older culture. Immigrants are welcome. Settlers get out.
