Director Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire took the top spot on Netflix for English-language films in the week of its release, but it performed worse than both the Adam Sandler animated film Leo and the Michael Fassbender starring The Killer when it debuted.

Netflix released its top 10 charts for the week of December 18th through December 24th and Snyder’s Rebel Moon film took the top spot with 23.9 million views and 54.1 million hours viewed. The film has a run time of 2 hours and 16 minutes.

If you turn the clock back just a month, the Adam Sandler starring animated film Leo debuted on the streaming service at #1 as well. It had 34.6 million views with 61.7 million hours viewed. It only had a run time of one hour and 47 minutes.

Fast forward a week and Leo nearly best the first week of Rebel Moon in its second week. The film retained the top spot on Netflix with 23.6 million views and 42.1 million hours viewed.
In fact, the holiday film Family Switch starring Jennifer Garner nearly best Rebel Moon’s debut. It posted 22.2 million views and 39.2 million hours viewed.

The film also performed worse than The Killer starring Michael Fassbender. The Killer debuted on Netflix at the beginning of November with 27.9 million and 55.7 million hours viewed. The film had a 2 hour run time.
In its second week the film remained at the top and added another 22.3 million views and 44.5 million hours viewed.

If you look at the most popular films on Netflix, Rebel Moon will likely never enter the top 10 list. The most watched English-language film is Red Notice. It racked up 230.9 million views and 454.2 million hours viewed.
Other films on the top 10 include Don’t Look Up, The Adam Project, Bird Box, The Gray Man, We Can Be Heroes, The Mother, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, Extraction, and Extraction 2.
Extraction 2 is the lowest film on the list and still has 134.9 million views and 278.7 million hours viewed.

In fact, in Netflix’s What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report, which tracks watch hours between January and June 2023 shows that The Mother’s total hours watched was 249.9 million. The film was released on May 12th. Clearly, most of the film’s hours watched was done in the first month or so of the film’s release date given total hours watched as of December 24, 2023 is 265.9 million. That means only 16 million hours were watched since June.
The Mother had 83.7 million hours viewed when it first premiered back in May. In its second week, it saw its total hours viewed increase to 94.42 million. It eventually faded in its third week to 34.9 million albeit it was still #1 for English-language films. By its fourth week, it still remained #1, but only brought in 16.4 million hours.

Extraction 2 tells a similar story albeit it has had more hours watched since its first month. The film had 201.8 million hours in the report after it was released on June 16, 2023. That means it’s been viewed 76.9 million hours since the end of June through December 24th.
The film debuted on Netflix with 42.8 million views and 88.4 million hours viewed. In its second week it added another 42.2 million views and 87.3 million hours viewed. By week three it had 17.5 million views and 36.2 million hours viewed. In its fourth week it had 8.9 million views and 18.4 million hours viewed.

Not only does Rebel Moon have seemingly low viewership for a Netflix film that has received significant media attention, but it has poor user reviews as well.
On IMDb the film has an awful 5.7 out of 10.
