Nintendo has officially lifted the curtain on its long-awaited live-action Legend of Zelda film, releasing the first Zelda Movie Photos on Monday morning. The images—posted directly through the Nintendo Today app—offer a clear look at the movie’s two young leads: Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link.

These photos also serve as Nintendo’s formal acknowledgment that production is fully underway.

The reveal comes only days after reports confirmed that filming had quietly begun in New Zealand, a location known for its sweeping landscapes and cinematic pedigree.

Nintendo’s newly released images also include solo character shots of Bo Bragason and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link.

Both shots match earlier fan-captured leaks that circulated last week, though this is the first time Nintendo has officially signed off on anything from the project.

A Breath of the Wild–Inspired Zelda, a Twilight Princess–Influenced Link

From the photos, we can see that Bragason’s Zelda appears to be wearing robes reminiscent of her Breath of the Wild look—light blue, ornate, graceful, and instantly recognizable to modern fans of the franchise. Ainsworth’s Link, by comparison, seems to draw inspiration from Twilight Princess, sporting a darker green tunic and a more rugged visual style.

We have yet to see Link’s signature green hat in any official photo or video leak.

It’s a fascinating blend: one version of Hyrule’s princess from the franchise’s most recent era, paired with a Link whose visual language is tied to one of the series’ most shadow-soaked entries. Whether this signals a unification of timelines, a purely artistic decision, or a new interpretation altogether remains to be seen.

Dichen Lachman May be Impa

Viewers who picked apart the earlier set video leaks believe Succession actress Dichen Lachman may be portraying Impa, Zelda’s trusted aide in several games.

Nintendo has not confirmed this casting, and the studio’s newly released photos do not include her. Still, the idea has already made the rounds online, and many viewers are treating it as a strong possibility until proven otherwise.

A Milestone Moment for the Franchise

This is the first time the Zelda franchise has ever been adapted into a major live-action film, making even the simplest production update headline-worthy. After decades of fan speculation, fan films, misfires, and outright hoaxes, the arrival of real, official photography is a watershed moment for Nintendo’s most storied adventure series.

More images and detailed production notes are expected as filming continues through the coming months. But for now, these first Zelda Movie Photos deliver what fans have been waiting for: a genuine look at Link and Zelda as they’ll appear on the big screen.

Nintendo promises “more to follow,” and judging by the fan reaction already sweeping social media, demand for updates will only intensify from here.

Girlboss zelda and worthless boy link.

Razrback16

Looks like we’ve still got the girlboss nonsense going on. Easy to avoid paying for this.

I guess everyone’s going to jump to conclusions and screech about girl bosses and an emasculated Link. I can’t help but wonder if these kinds of comments are made by people that haven’t played any of the games, because Zelda, in recent games at least, is living up to her Princess title (Excuse me, Princess!) and giving out orders left and right to people including Link, her sworn protector. We still have no idea what the story is or how involved she is either. For all we know what’s been seen so far are going to be parts of flashbacks, similar to what was done in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. And for those of you that are really unfamiliar, she was a pushy girl boss all the way back in the first media outside of the games, which was the late 80’s/early 90’s cartoons.

I understand your position. I know the whole backstory of Zelda and know its place in the pantheon of gaming.

However, I feel this property is rife with the intangibles, that certain female executives, will try to galvanize efforts for their messaging priorities.

I fully assume this…. movie will transcend what made zelda great and turn it into an affront of another girlboss fantasy. I honestly believe that everything you loved about the original game will be usurped and replaced. Maybe I’m wrong, but the past decade tells me I’m not.

I can’t disagree with anything you said, and really the only reason I’m hopeful is because Nintendo themselves supposedly have creative control. Given how popular the Zelda franchise has become in the last decade, I would really hope that Nintendo wouldn’t let their most beloved IP get destroyed by Hollywoke and the usual shovelfuls of liberal agendas and messages.
