It seems Daredevil actor Charlie Cox may have inadvertently confirmed his involvement in Avengers: Doomsday, thanks to an unexpected source—a gym buddy.

Speculation began after someone at Cox’s gym posted an Instagram story showing the actor alongside a congratulatory caption referencing Avengers: Doomsday. Although the post was swiftly deleted, screenshots spread like wildfire across social media, igniting a frenzy among Marvel fans.

The Instagram post came from DFRNT Health and Fitness. In the post, Cox is pictured alongside his wife and two of the gym’s trainers.

“It’s been awesome having Charlie and his wife, Sam Cox, in DFRNT over the past few weeks,” the post reads. “Charlie is currently training for his role in the upcoming @marvel Avengers movie where he will play @daredevil. It’s been our absolute pleasure working with you both and we can’t wait to watch you on the big screen!”

Cox has been the subject of intense speculation ever since his Daredevil revival in Spider-Man: No Way Home and later She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on Disney+. He’ll take the lead role of Daredevil once more in the upcoming Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again. The beloved actor’s portrayal of the blind vigilante has earned him a devoted fan base, with many hoping he would make the leap from Netflix’s The Defenders to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) grander stage in a more substantial theatrical role.

This gym-based mishap seems to suggest that those hopes may finally be realized.

While Marvel Studios is famously secretive, Cox’s involvement in Avengers: Doomsday wouldn’t come as a complete shock.

With Daredevil reintroduced to the MCU and Avengers: Doomsday likely set to showcase an all-hands-on-deck scenario to rival Infinity War and Endgame, Cox’s inclusion feels almost inevitable. However, the timing of this apparent slip-up is certainly awkward, as Marvel often prefers to save casting announcements for high-profile events like San Diego Comic-Con or D23 Expo. In recent history, Marvel purposely hides major casting surprises entirely from promotional material to generate big fan reactions live in the theater.

This was specifically done with Cox in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Adding to the intrigue, Cox has been unusually tight-lipped in interviews about his Marvel commitments beyond Born Again. When pressed for details about future appearances, he’s often deflected questions with vague answers or playful smirks. Fans now see these responses as potential hints that the actor was keeping a major secret all along.

Spider-Man

The implications of Daredevil appearing in Avengers: Doomsday are significant, making this a landmark casting for Marvel. The street-level hero has typically operated in the shadows, dealing with local threats in New York City rather than galactic or multiversal crises. Including him in such a large-scale event could signal a new chapter for the character, possibly aligning him with other prominent heroes like Spider-Man, who shares his gritty urban backdrop.

Over the years, Marvel Studios has gone to extreme lengths to avoid leaks, from using codenames on scripts to spreading misinformation even among the cast. Yet, time and again, minor slip-ups from external sources—whether they be toy manufacturers, merchandise leaks, or now a gym acquaintance—continue to reveal details ahead of schedule. A major Avengers: Doomsday casting leak would be a huge embarrassment to Marvel and Disney.

It’s no secret that fans have been far less enthusiastic about Marvel’s recent outings since Avengers Endgame. The company’s embrace of identity politics has turned off many fans and led to diminished box office returns. However, Cox’s Daredevil is still a beloved figure and the Netflix series he starred in is hailed by many as one of the best things Marvel has ever done.

It’s possible that involving Cox once more as Matt Murdock/Daredevil could reignite nostalgia and fan excitement, similar to what was recently seen with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in Deadpool & Wolverine.

What do you think of this rumored Avengers: Doomsday casting? Was this just an innocent mistake by a gym acquaintance, or did we just get confirmation of one of Marvel’s best-kept secrets? Hahahahah. Prop all the stacked dead actors. Their time under the sun has set. I’m completely out now. Same with kids.
Perhaps I’ll return to watching 2008-16, but it’ll be a spell. The taint of the past five + years will be a long time to shake. I honestly don’t think I’ll be back and I’ve got three “double digit” kids.
Girls watched froze and moana with their mother. Factored into the statistics. Neither of them want to watch either, again.
Chicks’ll show up once.
Dudes’ll show up many times over and carry a hefty pocketbook, if so inclined.
