The Harry Potter series has continuously made the news over potential casting choices, and not all of it has been well-received. The first instance occurred years ago when the adult version of Hermione Granger was race-swapped to be a black woman in the Broadway play Harry Potter and The Cursed Child.
A more recent example was the announcement that Paapa Essiedu, a black man, was being considered for the role of Severus Snape, filling the shoes of the late-great Alan Rickman.
These casting choices were met with intense backlash from fans, who wanted to see more accurate representations of their favorite characters and avoid politically motivated race swaps. For more on the Snape backlash, check out the video linked above from Gothic Therapy.
Other announcements have revealed that Albus Dumbledore may also have been cast, with either Mark Rylance or Gary Oldman taking up the mantle of Hogwarts Headmaster.
Peter Capaldi is most known for his portrayal of the 12th incarnation of the iconic Doctor in Doctor Who. Now, he might get to play another iconic role in another iconic British staple.

A Reddit user citing insider sources revealed that Peter Capaldi is being considered for a role in the new show, with many surmising that it could be Garrick Ollivander, the wand maker of Diagon Alley. In the movies, Mr. Ollivander was played by the late John Hurt, who also played The War Doctor in Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary special.
Peter Capaldi certainly looks the part. Plus, it could be seen as something of an homage to John Hurt to have two Doctors portray the same role.

If true, this casting alone might bring viewers in droves. Capaldi is an incredible actor and his fans want to see him succeed. But a rumor is still a rumor. Until HBO makes an official announcement, we can’t be sure of anything. We encourage you, for now, to take this with a grain of salt (it’s Reddit, after all!)

Just as long as he never eats pears, I am cool with this. Also great work honey!
We can get the king from Lord of the Rings to get a dozen cherry tomatoes and challenge Capaldi to an eat-off.
People are too eager to go to war, i would say its better to wait until things are more clear, though i would say the black snape thing was probably a HBO leak to test the waters and see the limits? Who knows
Very possible. They may have people on the inside pushing for stupid stuff and can use the fan backlash to prove it’s a dumb idea.
The WHO Capaldi era was the beginning of the end, but because of the writing, not the actor. Capaldi gave everything he had to try to save it but how do you fix bad writing when your job is to act?
He also did a pretty good read of Watership Down as an audiobook.
