Avatar: The Last Airbender just turned 20, and the show’s creators announced a new sequel series to celebrate—Avatar: Seven Havens.

There are few shows as impactful as Avatar: The Last Airbender. It had everything from humor to drama to romance and existential contemplation. The concept of element-bending became solidified in fiction, the phrase practically coined by the show. After the season finale, Nickelodeon released several continuation comics, allowing the fans to learn what happened to the characters thereafter. The sequel series, The Legend of Korra, was not so well-received and divided the fanbase—much like The Last Jedi did with Star Wars.

In fact, The Legend of Korra pretty much wrecked most of ATLA’s lore. For those who haven’t watched that show, here are some examples of how it accomplished this. The concept of the Avatar, a being who’s supposed to bring peace and unity to the Four Nations, became someone to be despised.

The entire line of past Avatars was destroyed, cutting off all future Avatars from the wisdom and guidance of their predecessors. And if that wasn’t bad enough, the final season was filled with a lot of DEI.

Now a new sequel series has been announced, and the reactions online are just as fractured as they were for The Legend of Korra. Some were thrilled by the news. Others demanded it not happen at all.

According to a report by IGN, the new show titled Avatar: Seven Havens follows the Avatar who succeeds Korra. Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the creators of the original Avatar series, made the announcement themselves.

“When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later,” they said. “This new incarnation of the Avatar-verse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters.”

IGN also reported that Avatar: Seven Havens will be “split into two seasons comprising a 13-episode Book 1 and a 13 episode Book 2.” There is also a full-length animated movie in development. The film is expected to release in theaters on January 30, 2026. According to IGN, it will follow the original gang on a new adventure. A line of new books, comics, concerts, toys, and a game in Roblox were also announced.

The synopsis for Avatar: Seven Havens is as follows:

The world was “shattered by a devastating cataclysm. A young Earthbender discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra—but in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, she and her long-lost twin must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”

Already this raises questions. What happened to the world during Korra’s lifetime? What did she do (or not do) that marked the Avatar as a villain? Will this new Avatar be as unlikable as Korra?

At the moment, there is too little information to go on. For now, as always, fans of ATLA are advised to hope for the best and expect the worst.

What do you think? Will the creators do The Last Airbender justice, or make it another Legend of Korra? Let us know in the comments below.

So I’d have to watch Korra? Hard pass.

“I, in fact, do not.” *click*

Like the article said – Korra was awful and completely wrecked the Avatar universe. The people behind the series are woke clowns, so chances are this will be even worse. The only good thing to come out of this is the eventual E;R review.

Maybe we can get the woke to start demanding that the writer’s race, sex, etc. matches the main character. I wonder how much of this would suddenly be fixed if we didn’t have men writing masculine girlbosses.

Nah, even with the original showrunners back from Airbender, I can’t stomach Korra remaining in canon. It’s not even (well, not only) the alphabet nonsense at the end; it’s the whole tone and the godawful world building mistakes.
