Bethesda’s surprise release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has not only delighted fans but also sent ripples through the gaming industry. With over four million players in just five days, the remaster’s success underscores a growing trend: gamers are increasingly gravitating towards revitalized classics over new, big-budget titles. That’s even in spite of a ridiculous “body type” revisionism for a modern audience that doesn’t exist. Players want the games they loved from a time they liked better, made by people who weren’t indoctrinated into post-modern academic sludge.

Built on Unreal Engine 5, Oblivion Remastered offers a comprehensive visual overhaul while preserving the core gameplay that made the 2006 original a classic. Every asset—from landscapes to character models—has been redesigned, blurring the line between remaster and remake. IGN notes that while it looks like a remake, it plays like a faithful remaster, maintaining the charm and quirks of the original. At a time when audiences consume more content from six-years-ago (or older) versus new content—in gaming, movies, streaming shows, etc—this is the sort of thing that has studios deeply concerned about investments in brand new content from “talent” that may be less competent than the teams for decades before.
One huge upgrade from Oblivion Remastered that I haven’t seen enough people mention is just how much faster the loading screens now are
I still remember how long Oblivion/Skyrim load times took on the Xbox 360 and would get worse the more you play, now they are ~5 secs long! pic.twitter.com/VDz1WoRfwc

The remaster includes all original expansions, such as Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine, along with additional downloadable content. Gameplay improvements, including a revamped leveling system and enhanced combat mechanics, modernize the experience without sacrificing its essence. For younger players who have never experienced Oblivion before, it’s like getting a new Skyrim out of the clear blue sky.
Despite a $50 price tag, Oblivion Remastered quickly climbed to the top of Steam’s best-seller list. Its availability on Game Pass further broadened its reach. Players have praised the remaster for its balance of nostalgia and modernization. As one reviewer from PC Gamer remarked, the game feels like “re-watching a classic movie… restored in widescreen and crisp.”

The remaster’s pricing has also sparked discussions about the cost of games. Comparisons have been drawn to Nintendo’s pricing strategies, with some fans suggesting that Bethesda’s approach offers better value.
The game has also been another win against “wokeism” with mods that switch a silly change to “body type” selections back to male and female. Although an attempt was made early on to prevent the game from going back to normal human language for the last ten-thousand-years and the way we’ve categorized anatomy, that attempt was quickly overwhelmed. You can now pick a boy or girl character once you download a mod. It’s absolutely ridiculous that this already-dated change was made to the game for its remaster, but the swiftness and overwhelming response that forced the mod to be made available is proof again to studios that they’re on the wrong side of biological science and the market’s demands.
Why did they do this?
There was zero need to change this in Oblivion Remastered.

The success of Oblivion Remastered highlights a broader industry trend: players are increasingly favoring updated versions of older games over new releases. Again, reports indicate that a significant portion of gaming time is spent on titles that are several years old, with only a small percentage dedicated to games released within the past year. I would posit that not only are the ideologies of today’s studios out-of-line with the vast marketplace, but also the hiring practices of major gaming companies in the last decade have likely decreased the capabilities such that many companies simply can’t compete with their own legacy games made by far superior, merit-based teams from a generation prior.

This shift is causing developers and publishers to reconsider their strategies. The high costs and risks associated with developing new IPs are leading some to focus on remastering beloved classics, which offer a more predictable return on investment.
Oblivion Remastered serves as a testament to the enduring appeal of classic games when thoughtfully updated. Its success reflects a growing desire among gamers for experiences that blend nostalgia with modern enhancements. As the industry takes note, we may see a continued emphasis on revitalizing cherished titles, offering players the best of both worlds. For now, this may be the only solution for many studios. It could take a minimum of five years to flush out poor talent and bring in the sort of passionate artists who can produce at the high level we once enjoyed.

Let’s not ignore that this game attempts to be woke by replacing Male and Female with Body Types, as nonsensical as that is given certain dialogue choices are specific to male or female characters.
That said, everything else mentioned in this article is driving progressives and shill media absolutely insane. PC Gamer’s Wes Fenlon is calling for censorship of the soundtrack over composer Jeremy Soule because he was accused of something six years ago. No formal charges, no proof anything happened. It’s a hit piece and a poorly written one at that.
I fully expect more from other outlets because this game proves just how creatively bankrupt Western video games are and is a threat to the current gaming establishment. Shill media hitched their carts to it and have a vested interest in defending it, no matter how insane and hard to swallow their antics are. The same is true of Hollywoke; look at all the articles trying to defend awful productions and blaming “toxic fans.” Denial and deflection is all they have left because deep down they *know* they’re losing.
The Oblivion Demaster is more a testament of gamers’ lack of principles. The game not only adds feminist nonsense with the Body Type, but it also uglified characters and even censored a couple of statues showing too much cleavage.
Well-said. Many gamers bought it though, so woke won this round for sure. And those same gamers who bought it and are championing it will likely be complaining about wokeness down the road in something else, never making the connection in their little pea-sized brains that they are a huge part of the problem and the reason the woke stuff sticks around…
If people want it gone, there has to be a literal no-tolerance policy.
Most of them downloaded the Gender mod though which was Hilarious
They gave them money in the process to download the gender mod though.
I dunno, man; I wouldn’t run with this narrative too hard. The Body Type thing is enough to keep me from buying it, because I don’t know what else they’ve snuck in. I’ll be we find more woke nonsense soon.
This is why I will never support remakes or remasters. I stay with the original unlike those graphic horny hypocrites who say “It is just a mod fix, get over it.”
