The Super Mario Bros. Movie was such a hit that more films are already in the works. Fans are already excited for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie set to release April 3, 2026. The hype has increased after Pillsbury accidentally released a cookie box showing what Yoshi will potentially look like in the movie, as well as Rosalina’s observatory and Bowser Jr.s signature graffiti.

Now, rumors have leaked that Nintendo is working with Illumination to develop a movie focusing on Mario’s dinosaur steed himself.

Reports circulating in November 2025 suggest that Yoshi may be the subject of a dedicated film from Nintendo or featured in a major way in its upcoming cinematic efforts. One claim, attributed to a industry scooper MyTimeToShineHello on X, states that a Yoshi movie is in the works.

However, the rumor is not new, as That Park Place publisher and industry scooper WDWPro first broke this a full two years ago. WDWPro says an upcoming Yoshi movie is likely to feature Yoshi’s Island and serve as the backstory for both Princess Peach and Bowser.

Could we see a Baby Mario and Baby Peach? Perhaps sometimes in the future.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa spoke recently about the company’s approach to adapting their games into movies, saying they’re involved “from planning and development through to production.” Furukawa further said, Nintendo is “continuing to prepare for the ongoing release of movies in the future.”

Yoshi’s Cultural and Series Significance

Yoshi has been a consistent presence in Nintendo’s catalogue since his introduction in 1990 in Super Mario World for the Super Famicom, followed by the 1991 release in North America on the renamed Super Nintendo.

The character has since appeared in multiple dedicated titles, including Yoshi’s Story, Yoshi’s Woolly World, and Yoshi’s Crafted World. Yoshi also features in ensemble series such as Mario Kart, Mario Party, and Super Smash Bros. His design is widely recognized, and the character holds a long-standing role in both platforming titles and party-style games.

This history shows why discussions about a potential Yoshi movie continue to circulate whenever new details emerge about Nintendo’s expanding slate of adaptations.
