Major Hollywood trade publications are now acknowledging the rumors that Kathleen Kennedy leaving Lucasfilm may be imminent.
Recent coverage in The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision newsletter noted that Kennedy “may make her departure from Lucasfilm official any day now,” citing sources close to the studio and ongoing internal transition planning. This development follows earlier reporting from Puck News columnist Matthew Belloni, who first broke the story of Kennedy’s potential exit and a broader leadership reshuffle within the iconic franchise studio.
Trade Validation After Internal Signals
That Park Place sources have indicated that Kennedy has been noticeably absent from Lucasfilm headquarters, fueling speculation that her role had already shifted substantially prior to any formal announcement. Insiders familiar with the situation confirm to That Park Place that Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan have been operating with expanded authority, informing key creative and business decisions in recent weeks.

This aligns with the narrative emerging in the trades: that Lucasfilm is entering a new chapter under dual leadership — Filoni on the creative side and Brennan managing business operations — even as official titles and responsibilities are still being finalized.
What We Know So Far
Kennedy’s Record and Recent Years
Kathleen Kennedy has served as Lucasfilm’s president since 2012, overseeing the franchise through the Disney acquisition and multiple Star Wars trilogies and spinoffs.

While her tenure has included a few major commercial successes, it has mostly been marked by creative disputes, balooning budgets, uneven critical reception on key projects, and the first Star Wars properties ever to lose money at the box office.
Belloni’s Initial Report
Matthew Belloni’s Puck News coverage earlier this week was the first to publicly frame Kennedy’s exit as a near-term certainty, citing her diminishing daily presence and internal discontent among some creative circles. That report set the stage for mainstream validation.
Heat Vision Adds Credibility
The Hollywood Reporter’s genre-focused Heat Vision newsletter, written by Aaron Couch and Borys Kit, mentioned the possibility that an official departure announcement could come “as early as next week,” specifically referencing Filoni and Brennan stepping into co-leadership roles.

While Heat Vision is focused on genre and franchise news, its acknowledgment of this transition is notable as a major Hollywood trade — indicating that the story has moved beyond rumor into industry consensus.
Filoni and Brennan: What Their Roles Might Look Like
Industry observers see the combination of Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan as a strategic move by Disney and Lucasfilm:
- Dave Filoni, once viewed as a stabilizing creative force within Star Wars, has seen his reputation among the fanbase become increasingly divided in recent years. While he played a key role in expanding the franchise across animated and live-action projects, his more recent output — including Ahsoka and The Mandalorian Season 3 — has drawn significant criticism from longtime fans. Filoni’s public praise for The Acolyte, a series that was met with widespread backlash and weak audience reception, has further fueled skepticism about his creative direction and alignment with the core fanbase.
-
Lynwen Brennan, a veteran business executive, has built a reputation for operational rigor and strategic planning — attributes that could anchor Lucasfilm’s future development pipeline and studio partnerships.

Together, this leadership duo represents a shift toward creative-business balance, with Filoni anchoring franchise storytelling and Brennan driving corporate direction.
What This Means for Star Wars Projects
With Kathleen Kennedy leaving Lucasfilm and new influences ascending:
- Upcoming theatrical releases, streaming series, and franchise strategy may see shifts in tone and long-term planning.
- Filoni’s influence suggests a continued emphasis on story continuity and fan-oriented worldbuilding.
- Brennan’s business stewardship could fortify Lucasfilm’s position within Disney’s broader content ecosystem and bring Kennedy’s massive budgets under control.
Official Statements — Still Pending
As of this writing, Lucasfilm and Disney have not issued a formal announcement regarding Kennedy’s departure or the leadership transition.
The convergence of Puck News reporting, That Park Place’s internal confirmations, and The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision acknowledgment marks a pivotal moment for Lucasfilm.

Whether the transition is formalized publicly or only later disclosed, the broader narrative is clear: a new era for Lucasfilm leadership is underway, with Filoni and Brennan at the helm, and Kathleen Kennedy’s long tenure drawing to a close — if it hasn’t already.

She needs to GTFO. Filoni won’t save it though. Dude didn’t know how lightsabers worked when he did the lame kids’ cartoon known as the clone wars. Until they acknowledge the Star Wars EU as a valid storyline I will not be giving them any money or time. I’ve got three kids, too. None of them care about Star Wars because I have taught them all what was done to it.
It doesn’t matter if Darth Kennedy is ousted or not at this point. She killed SW, she killed IJ, and she turned Lucasfilm into a money sink that’s likely to be liquidated by the end of the decade by a desperate Mouse House.
