The future of Boba Fett in the modern Star Wars television universe may be far more uncertain than fans realized — and according to actor Temuera Morrison, the reason might be Lucasfilm itself.

In a recent interview with Inverse, Morrison suggested that his iconic bounty hunter has effectively been sidelined by the studio after he encouraged fans to push for more appearances. While discussing the character’s future, Morrison revealed that Lucasfilm contacted him following comments he made at a convention encouraging fans to lobby the company.

“I was only joking. I’m at a convention, and I say stupid things,” Morrison explained. However, Morrison says the reaction from Lucasfilm was far from amused.

“Then I’ve got [Lucasfilm] ringing me: ‘Look, you’ve been put on the shelf, Boba Fett. We might open up the jar later.’”

For fans who have wondered why Boba Fett has seemingly disappeared from the expanding “Mandoverse,” Morrison’s comments suggest that the character’s absence may not be accidental.

Boba Fett’s Disappearance From the “Mandoverse”

When The Book of Boba Fett premiered on Disney+, the series was positioned as a major expansion of the Star Wars streaming universe that had begun with The Mandalorian. The show promised to explore the legendary bounty hunter’s rise to power in the criminal underworld following his survival of the Sarlacc pit.

Instead, the series received a mixed reception from viewers. While Morrison’s portrayal of the character remained widely praised, the show’s narrative was frequently criticized for sidelining Boba Fett in his own story — including episodes that focused heavily on Din Djarin and Grogu.

Despite those criticisms, Morrison had believed the show would lead to additional seasons.

“It was a big deal for me,” he recalled. “When you do a series like Boba Fett and work with Ming-Na [Wen], I started to think, ‘Man, this is it. I’m away. Season 2, 3, 4.’”

But those expectations have not materialized.

Lucasfilm has never officially announced a second season of The Book of Boba Fett, and the current direction of the franchise appears focused on other projects within the shared Disney+ storyline.

Morrison Encouraged Fans to Lobby Lucasfilm

The comments that Morrison says triggered Lucasfilm’s response stem from a 2025 convention appearance where he jokingly told fans to contact the studio directly if they wanted to see Boba Fett return.

Reports at the time indicated Morrison encouraged supporters to “send a fax, or a letter or an email” to Lucasfilm asking for more Boba Fett content.

Shortly afterward, Morrison says he received a call from the studio — one that left the impression the character had effectively been shelved for the time being.

While the actor’s tone in the interview remained lighthearted, the message itself raised eyebrows among longtime Star Wars fans.

A Character With Deep Roots in Star Wars

Morrison’s connection to the franchise goes far beyond The Book of Boba Fett. The actor first appeared in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones as Jango Fett, the genetic template used to create the Republic’s clone army.

As a result, Morrison’s likeness has become embedded across the franchise’s lore.

“I’m Jango. I’m Boba. I’m Commander Cody. I’m all the clones. I’m Captain Rex… the list goes on, so I really can’t complain.”

Boba Fett and Fennec Shand

Even so, Morrison remains hopeful that Lucasfilm may eventually revisit the character.

“[I’m] shelved, that’s all,” he said. “Like a jar of peaches. When it does get opened, I’m going to come out sweeter, darling.”

For now, however, it appears that one of Star Wars’ most recognizable bounty hunters may remain exactly where Morrison says Lucasfilm placed him — on the shelf.
