Star Wars actor John Boyega has confirmed that he spoke with Lucasfilm president Dave Filoni about a potential return to the galaxy far, far away. While he offered no further details, the revelation has sparked conversation among fans.

Many are curious how Boyega’s character, Finn, might fit into a future Star Wars project. Meanwhile, some critics question whether audiences are eager for more adventures with the former stormtrooper turned Resistance hero.

Boyega Confirms Conversation with Filoni

The comments came during a panel at MEGACON Orlando. It was moderated by a reporter from ScreenRant, who asked Boyega if he might reprise his role as Finn. Before he could answer, an audience member shouted, “Get Dave on the phone!”

Boyega replied, “I actually have, actually.”

Dave Filoni became President and Chief Creative Officer of Lucasfilm in January. It is unclear whether Boyega’s conversation with Filoni took place before or after the leadership changes. Still, the fact that they have discussed Finn’s return suggests that either the actor or the studio has been exploring ideas for the character’s future.

Over the years, Boyega’s relationship with Disney and Star Wars fans has been complicated. At times, he has expressed frustration. At other moments, he has shown an openness to return.

A Complicated History with Disney and Fans

In a 2020 interview with GQ, Boyega openly criticized Disney. He claimed the studio set his character up to be important before ultimately sidelining him. “You guys knew what to do with Daisy Ridley, you knew what to do with Adam Driver. But when it came to Kelly Marie Tran, when it came to John Boyega, you know nothing,” he said. Many fans seemed to share his view, feeling that Finn’s role was unfairly diminished over the course of the sequel trilogy.

By 2023, Boyega’s tone had shifted. Following the announcement of a new Star Wars film centered on Rey, he said he was “open to all characters and scripts that are enjoyable, have a great cast attached and a terrific director.”

After that project stalled, Boyega directed his criticisms at the fanbase.

“Star Wars always had the vibe of being in the most whitest, elite space,” he said in a 2025 documentary. He suggested that fans would accept a black actor in a supporting role, like Lando Calrissian, but reacted differently when black actors were placed in leading roles. “Once we touch their heroes, once we lead, once we trailblaze, it’s like, ‘Oh my God, it’s just a bit too much! They’re pandering,'” he added.

His comments came at a time when Star Wars was struggling following a series of divisive films and television projects, with Boyega’s films often at the center of the debate. Now, under Lucasfilm’s new leadership, it appears that Boyega is reopening lines of communication with Filoni.

Finn’s Future

Whether Filoni will expand the stories of the sequel trilogy characters remains uncertain. What is clear is that Boyega and the studio are now in conversation, leaving the door open for Finn’s return—but how, when, or even if that will happen is still unknown. For now, fans can only speculate about the next chapter in the former stormtrooper’s journey.

Boyega must have a humiliation fetish. His character Finn is a joke.

They made him so. Good writing could give him a path to more movies. Instead, they buried him.

Chef Boy-R-Ega is an anti-white racist.

I already was avoiding everything Star Wars. No need for Boyega to convince me further.

Mark Emark

I avoid Star Wars in the same way that I avoid people on the street when they look like John Boyega.

“Return to ‘Star Wars’”
Most people won’t admit it, but they probably do not want to watch movies with talentless DEI like him in them.
To make matters worse, he blames us, the fans, for rejecting the show that he, himself, has helped ruin.

The failure of Captain Black American is another case in point, the Market speaketh. This is the reality that ideology cannot defeat: Evolutionary biology. Humans prefer to watch actors of their own race (give or take).

They would not let him come back without Rey. And people are sick of Mary Sue. No sir, you are not coming back unless LucasFilm wants to take a guaranteed loss of hew hundred millions.
