Veteran comedian Tim Allen didn’t hesitate to mock “No Kings” protesters following King Charles III’s recent visit to Washington.

Since Trump returned to office, several organized events have accused the president of acting like a monarch. Many left-wing politicians and celebrities have been vocal in their support of these “No Kings” protests. Yet when an actual king arrived to meet with Trump and address the nation, many felt he was warmly received.

It was an irony Tim Allen apparently felt was worth pointing out.

In a historic event on April 28, King Charles III spoke before a special joint session of the U.S. Congress—only the second time a reigning British monarch has done so. During his speech, the King received multiple standing ovations from members of both parties.

“Would have been funny to see the facial reactions of an actual King with a no Kings parade yelling at him,” Tim Allen wrote on X later that evening. He included an image of King Charles at the podium, with Vice President J.D. Vance and House Speaker Mike Johnson seated behind him.

The post quickly went viral. While some users pushed back, arguing that the issue isn’t with kings but with those who feel they act like them, many more comments signaled agreement with Allen.

“I just enjoyed the delicious irony of No Kings protesters applauding a LITERAL KING in Congress,” wrote one user.

Movement Draws Political and Celebrity Support

“No Kings” protests have received international attention. Supporters of the movement have focused on what they feel is Trump’s misuse of executive power, immigration enforcement, and broader use of federal authority. Several Marvel actors, including Mark Ruffalo, Marisa Tomei, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Glenn Close, attended a June 2025 event.

Some members of Congress have also appeared at “No Kings” rallies. Rep. Ilhan Omar spoke at one event just days before King Charles’ visit. Many comments on Tim Allen’s post suggested she was among the more enthusiastic attendees during his Washington speech.

Allen Unlikely to Face Career Fallout

Tim Allen may be one of the few voices in the entertainment industry willing to call out what he sees as “No Kings” hypocrisy. Yet in a moment that could have been polarizing, Allen’s words also offer an opportunity for reflection. It was a gentle, if pointed, jab that in another era might have drawn chuckles from both sides.

While Allen works primarily with Disney—which has at times responded harshly to stars’ right-leaning social media posts, while ignoring those from the left—it’s unlikely the comedian will face any professional consequences. In June, he returns to the Toy Story franchise as the voice of Buzz Lightyear. The fifth installment in the iconic series is among the most anticipated films of the summer.

Additionally, ABC—which is owned by Disney—recently renewed his sitcom Shifting Gears for a third season. On the show, Allen plays widower Matt Parker, a Fox News-watching, politically right-leaning everyman.

A Joke That Struck a Nerve

In the end, Allen’s viral remark resonated because it captured a contradiction many Americans instantly recognized. Whether viewed as sharp satire or simple trolling, the joke underscored how political slogans often collide with real-world moments. As debates over power, symbolism, and consistency continue, even a ceremonial royal visit can become a mirror reflecting the nation’s partisan divide.
