Universal Destinations & Experiences has launched a Universal $10 million UCF program in partnership with the University of Central Florida. The initiative is designed to prepare students for careers in themed entertainment, hospitality, and experience design. It builds on an established relationship between the two organizations.

The program centers on the Universal School of Experience Leadership and Innovation, which will be located at UCF’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management. Rosen College has long served as a major hub for hospitality and tourism education at the university.

Officials said the program is intended to align academic training with industry workforce needs. The curriculum will focus on hospitality leadership, immersive storytelling, and experience design. It will also include instruction tied to technologies used in modern entertainment environments.

The Program

The Universal $10 million UCF program will operate within a dual-school structure. It will function alongside UCF’s existing School of Hospitality Leadership. University officials said this structure allows students to move between traditional hospitality coursework and specialized themed entertainment training.

A key component of the initiative is the Hospitality Technology Lab. The lab will support collaboration between students, faculty, and industry professionals. It will focus on applied learning in artificial intelligence, robotics, and virtual reality.

The Curriculum

The curriculum will focus on hospitality leadership, which includes training in team management, service operations, and decision-making in customer-facing environments. Students are expected to study how guest experience is shaped through staffing, communication, and operational planning. This area reflects the leadership structure commonly found in hotels, resorts, and theme park environments.

Another core area is immersive storytelling. This focuses on how narrative elements are integrated into physical spaces and guest experiences. In themed entertainment settings, storytelling can guide attraction design, environmental details, and interactive elements. The emphasis is on how creative concepts translate into real-world environments that visitors can physically engage with.

The program also highlights experience design, which combines creative planning, user interaction, and operational execution. This field examines how guests move through spaces, how they interact with environments, and how different elements work together to shape the overall experience. It often overlaps with design, hospitality operations, and entertainment production.

In addition, officials said the program will include instruction tied to technologies used in modern entertainment environments. This includes tools that support interactive and digitally enhanced guest experiences. These systems are commonly associated with simulation, visualization, and real-time guest interaction.

Artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and robotics were also referenced in program materials as relevant areas of study. These technologies are increasingly used in planning, testing, and operating entertainment and hospitality environments. For example, virtual reality can help prototype attraction layouts, while data-driven systems can support analysis of guest flow and operational efficiency.

Excitement for the Program

UCF President Alexander N. Cartwright said, “This collaboration with Universal Destinations & Experiences represents our mission at its best, creating an environment where students are learning in direct connection with the people and ideas shaping the future of immersive experiences.”

Universal Destinations & Experiences CEO Mark Woodbury said, “The Universal School of Experience Leadership and Innovation unites creativity, technology and the practical application of business, marketing, and guest service to develop tomorrow’s leaders in themed entertainment and immersive experiences.”

The Universal $10 million UCF program also reflects a continuation of earlier collaboration between UCF and Universal. The two organizations have previously worked together on workforce development and educational initiatives tied to Orlando’s tourism industry. Over time, this relationship has evolved from project-based cooperation into a more structured academic partnership.

Rather than operating as a new standalone effort, the program formalizes and expands existing engagement between industry and academia. UCF’s hospitality programs have historically maintained close ties with Universal Creative and other entertainment industry partners in Central Florida.

Officials have not announced enrollment targets or a full operational timeline. Additional details are expected as the program develops.
