The increasingly bizarre Bricks & Minifigs controversy has taken another turn after leaked police bodycam footage surfaced online.

What began as a local dispute involving a collection of rare Star Wars LEGO sets owned by the Mansell family quickly drew national attention after YouTuber Reckless Ben began releasing a series of long-form investigative videos. The saga has since escalated into lawsuits, arrests, public accusations, and multiple encounters with law enforcement.

The leak arrived at a particularly sensitive moment for the company. Less than a day later, Bricks & Minifigs announced that it had severed ties with former Salem franchise owners Joshua Johnson and Brandon Best, citing what it described as a “devastating social media campaign” surrounding the dispute.

Leaked Footage Raises New Questions

The latest unredacted footage comes from the American Fork Police Department. According to reports, it was accidentally uploaded to a public Dropbox account before quickly spreading across social media.

One of the most notable moments in the leaked bodycam footage involves former Bricks & Minifigs franchisee Joshua Johnson speaking with police while Bricks & Minifigs North America CEO Ammon McNeff can be heard on speakerphone. During the conversation, McNeff alleges that a collection of LEGO sets—valued at roughly $200,000 according to some accounts—was sold by a former franchisee under what he describes as an invalid consignment agreement. He further claims that the original owner was never paid following the sale.

The implication is that the Mansell family is owed money. The point of contention online is whether Bricks & Minifigs or the former franchisee is ultimately responsible.

McNeff Makes Accusations Against Reckless Ben

McNeff emphasized that Ben Schneider, better known online as Reckless Ben, was not involved in the original arrangement. He claimed that Schneider became involved in order to share in any recovered funds, while also building his YouTube following. However, he went on to accuse Schneider of harassment, fraud, threats, extortion, and collusion while discussing the ongoing dispute.

“He just goes around and does stupid things,” McNeff says in the recording. He later accuses Schneider and members of the Mansell family of vandalizing a store. The most striking moment comes when McNeff alleges that Schneider and the Mansell family were passing fraudulent documents in Oregon.

“They created a fake contract, forged a manager signature up there, threatened to kill her, all sorts of things,” he said.

Those allegations immediately attracted attention online. However, Dexerto notes that the accusations remain unverified, and no public evidence has yet emerged to substantiate many of the claims made during the call.

Bricks & Minifigs Closes Salem Store

Shortly after the bodycam footage began circulating online, Bricks & Minifigs released a statement announcing that it would close the Salem store at the center of the controversy. The company also confirmed that it was parting ways with store operators Joshua Johnson and Brandon Best, describing the decision as “a mutual agreement.”

According to the statement, an internal investigation found that Johnson and Best were “not aware of, nor prepared for the responsibilities of taking over a store from a forensic accounting review standpoint.”

Bricks & Minifigs further stated that its investigation uncovered what it described as “significant evidence of gross negligence” in how the store had previously been operated. The company claims the prior owner sold more of the Star Wars LEGO collection than the Mansell family had been led to believe and misrepresented both the value of the collection and the terms of the consignment agreement.

The statement also signaled a potential shift in the legal battle. Bricks & Minifigs said it is willing to drop its lawsuit against the Mansell family and work toward what it called a “mutual and positive resolution.”

The Controversy Enters a New Phase

Many online commentators suggested that the leaked footage and McNeff’s remarks caused reputational damage to the Bricks & Minifigs brand. Now, with the company publicly distancing itself from the former Salem franchise owners and signaling a willingness to resolve its dispute with the Mansell family, the controversy appears to be entering a new phase.

Yet the legal firestorm surrounding Reckless Ben remains far from settled. While Bricks & Minifigs appears increasingly focused on resolving the underlying dispute over the LEGO collection, Schneider continues to face scrutiny over his own actions. As lawsuits continue and competing narratives collide, the controversy shows little sign of ending anytime soon.
