Spencer Pratt is pushing back after Jimmy Kimmel mocked his failed Los Angeles mayoral campaign with a U-Haul truck.

During his monologue the day following the primary election, Kimmel revisited Pratt’s unsuccessful bid for mayor and referenced an earlier promise that he would leave Los Angeles if either Karen Bass or Nithya Raman won the election. For the punchline, he cut to a video of a U-Haul truck decorated with balloons and a “Just Defeated” sign.

However, Pratt’s response quickly shifted attention away from the joke and toward a much more serious reality.

Kimmel Agreed With Some Of Pratt’s Criticisms

In the days before the Los Angeles mayoral election, Jimmy Kimmel validated some of Spencer Pratt’s concerns.

“Let’s be honest, this city is a mess,” Kimmel said.

He referenced the aftermath of the Pacific Palisades fires, which Pratt—who had lost his home in the disaster—said motivated him to run for office. Beyond that, Pratt had criticized city leadership over public safety concerns, fire preparedness, homelessness, and quality-of-life issues.

“It’s hard not to agree with what he has to say,” Kimmel added. However, he stopped short of endorsing the long-shot candidate. Jimmy Kimmel went on to compare Spencer Pratt to his favorite target—President Donald Trump.

“[Spencer Pratt] is angry about the same problems a lot of people here are angry about,” Jimmy Kimmel said. “Does he have solutions to those problems? No.”

Kimmel’s U-Haul Joke

Pratt’s narrow loss quickly drew national attention. In his monologue the next day, Kimmel jokingly addressed rumors that the results were untrustworthy.

“Listen, I don’t know how to tell you this,” Kimmel said. “There’s no way Democrats in LA are organized enough to rig an election. We can’t even agree on whether or not we want bike lanes.”

He quickly pivoted to Pratt, referencing news footage of the candidate expressing confidence in his chances of winning. He also noted Pratt’s promise to leave the city if he lost the election.

“You know, he clearly promised that if Karen Bass or Nithia Raman were elected mayor, he’s going to move out of LA,” Kimmel said. “He said he was done with LA. And Spencer, if you’re watching, we are so so sorry to see you go.”

After a few more faux-conciliatory remarks, Kimmel revealed the decorated U-Haul.

“So, to help you out, we rented you a U-Haul. It has plenty of room,” he said.

The host suggested that it had room for tables, chairs, and whatever else Pratt and his wife Heidi Montag might want to take with them.

Pratt Fires Back

The next morning, Spencer Pratt offered a devastating response to Jimmy Kimmel’s U-Haul joke.

“Jimmy Kimmel i guess you missed the part of the story i don’t need a U-Haul,” Pratt wrote on X. “I have nothing left to pack.”

He followed the message with a shrugging emoji and attached a video surveying the ruins of his home shortly after the Pacific Palisades fire.

The response immediately changed the tone of the conversation. What had been framed as a snide joke about a celebrity candidate’s election loss suddenly became a reminder that Pratt and his family had endured a life-altering tragedy. Ultimately, Pratt’s response may have landed harder than any joke Kimmel delivered that night.
