Enes Kanter Freedom has been banned from attending Chicago Sky home games following his courtside confrontation with guard Natasha Cloud.

Sky owner Michael Alter announced the decision Tuesday, two days after security removed the former NBA player from Wintrust Arena during Chicago’s 113-90 loss to the Indiana Fever.

“He has demonstrated to us, unequivocally, that he has the potential to be a threat,” Alter said, according to ESPN reporter Kareem Copeland.

However, Alter did not identify any specific threat allegedly made by Freedom or explain how the team reached that determination. To the millions who have watched clips of the incident, Freedom appeared to do little more than wear a shirt Cloud disliked.

The ban applies to Sky games at Wintrust Arena. Freedom could potentially be allowed to return if the organization becomes convinced that he will follow its rules. What exactly those rules are, however, remains unclear.

Sky Owner Accuses Freedom of Provoking Cloud

The controversy began Sunday when Freedom attended the game wearing a black shirt reading, “WOMAN noun. adult human female.”

Late in the third quarter, Freedom celebrated after Indiana guard Sophie Cunningham made a three-pointer. Cloud subsequently walked toward him while allegedly yelling profanities and pointing. Freedom stood, extended his arms, and stepped toward the court before Sky players and security personnel separated them.

Security escorted Freedom from his courtside seat while Cloud remained in the game.

According to Chicago State of Mind Sports, Alter claimed that Freedom had been “chirping” at Cloud during the third quarter. Although he characterized the comments as basketball-related trash talk, he suggested that the former center was attempting to provoke her.

The owner also accused Freedom of attending the game primarily to attract attention through his opposition to biological men competing in women’s sports.

That explanation raises an obvious question: If Freedom’s basketball-related heckling was threatening enough to justify an indefinite ban, why did Cloud face no apparent consequences for leaving the court and approaching a spectator?

Video of the incident shows Cloud initiating the confrontation after play stopped. Freedom stood and moved forward, but security immediately intervened before the exchange could become physical.

Freedom Describes Cloud’s Alleged Remarks

In an interview with Fox News, Freedom said Cloud had accused him of supporting Cunningham because he wanted to sleep with her.

“And I was shocked,” Freedom said. “I was like, ‘Listen, I’m not trying to sleep with her. I think she’s awesome. She’s a good friend.’ But I think it has a lot to do with my shirt.”

Cloud did not speak with reporters following the game. She later posted a message on Threads expressing her support for transgender people.

“To every trans kid/person, You are apart of MY community & tribe. You belong. You’re loved. You’re seen. You’re perfect as you are. & you will always be protected by me,” she wrote.

Freedom Continues Challenging the WNBA

Freedom has become an increasingly vocal defender of women’s sports. He and former NBA player Royce White recently claimed to identify as women and declared themselves eligible for the WNBA draft.

The move was intended to expose the league’s refusal to provide a clear public definition of who qualifies as a woman. Although the WNBA’s collective bargaining agreement limits eligibility to women, it does not establish a publicly available transgender participation policy.

Freedom has also praised Cunningham for opposing the inclusion of biological men in women’s basketball, calling her “an American hero.”

The Sky’s decision now ensures that Freedom cannot return to its home games unless the organization reverses course. Labeling him a potential threat without identifying any threatening statement or action, however, makes the ban appear less like a security precaution than punishment for wearing the “wrong” shirt.
